The Septemgeminus Prophecy is coming true, but what does that mean for Fawn and Caleb's fragile relationship?

Determined to redeem himself, Caleb must recapture Fawn's affections by proving his love once and for all. When a new evil threatens to kill the Belgrave family, he realizes time is running out.

My Review

Tears of the Angel is the second book of the The Belgrave Legacy Trilogy.

Fawn is a witch and Caleb is her soulmate and he wasn't who she thought he was in book one. In her disappointment, she used her magical powers to erase him from her memory but not without severe repercussions.

In this second instalment, Caleb, now an Angel is looking for a second chance to redeem himself but her twin brother Alec is none too happy about a prospective reunion between the two of them. Furthermore, Fawn doesn't remember Caleb and when they eventually meet and he introduces himself as her boyfriend, she is not impressed. When he eventually manages to explain what had transpired in the past, she is furious with him and rejects him on more than one occasion.

In the meantime, she is pursued by Witch Hunters who are intent on destroying her whole family and betrayal comes from where least expected. On top of all of this, she has forgotten how to use her powers and has to retrain.

Her brother, her mother and best friend Ivy, a Siren are all very supportive throughout her ordeals. Caleb is very protective too despite the way she behaves towards him.

There is drama, romance, heartache and betrayal in this sequel. It is suitable for Young Adults who have an interest in the supernatural.

I received an Advanced copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Hypnagogic Shifters - Superposition by Penelope M Fernandez

Author                     Penelope M Fernandez
Format                     Kindle
Print Length            412 pages
Publication Date     16 July 2014
Genre                        Science-fiction
My Rating                 4 stars out of 5

All of humanity will never fly, but a few men will get wings. Blaz Kruger is a wingless man, leading a meaningless life until he is selected by Cain, an extraterrestrial entity to travel into parallel worlds. Plucked from the membrane of normality and dragged into the heart of chaos, Blaz embarks on an astounding journey, which eventually transforms his soul.
Cain forces Blaz to endure a series of grueling psychological assessments. Beguiled by Cain’s deceptive words, Blaz is driven to the edge of sanity.
As he struggles to maintain cognitive equilibrium, he runs into Leone Ryder, a geneticist. Leone has a terrifying idea, which could alter the fate of humanity. Blaz is soon entangled in a twisted situation, challenging both his moral fiber and intellectual core. He learns that evil and good have many faces, but none is black or white.

Through the mind of Blaz, Hypnagogic Shifters: Superposition explores the philosophical conundrums accompanying human evolution, such as the dilemmas of morality, free-will, destiny, and the purpose of existence.

My Review
Blaz works in research and he is not happy with life in general, feeling quite devoid of any form of satisfaction. After what appeared to have been an earthquake, he starts having what he thinks are  dreams which seem to spill into his reality.
As the story develops, Blaz's behaviour becomes more and more erratic and unpredictable coupled with unusual occurrences. These occurrences and the change in his personality bring with it  question marks. The cause could be associated to a number of things. Is the paperweight given to him by this lady he met by chance the "Shifter"? Is the appearance of Cain real or is he from a different dimension? Many other questions could be raised.
These questions are the driving forces behind finding out Blaz's reality. The story is very comprehensive and in depth but unlike any other science fictions I have read, dystopian or otherwise. It draws you in to unravel the mysteries. This would appeal to those interested in the human psyche.
This book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.
About the Author

My name is Penelope M. Fernandez. I am a native of Darjeeling, a little town in the foothills of the Himalayas. Hypnagogic Shifters: Superposition is my first novel and the second novel, a continuation of the first, is on its way.

Nothing in the material sphere is sanctioned exclusion from the bonds of interconnection, not even art. Thus the conjecture that art as much one would like to believe is crafted for the sake of itself is not quite true. Instead the purpose of art is the psychological metamorphosis of the observer. And what is literature but a form of art which strings words into coherent sentences holding the potential to transform lives. It is undeniable that the hull of literature is entertainment but it must never be forgotten that the soul of literature is education.

Our world is in desperate need of a renaissance but not of art nor science nor politics, we are in need of a mental renaissance. Hypnagogic Shifters is a duology; the first book is called Hypnagogic Shifters: Superposition, and the second one is called Hypnagogic Shifters: Entanglement. The books are part of an attempt at assisting the process of evolution and recalibration of the human mind.

With pearlescent hair and spring green eyes, he crashes into my world. I thought this crazy, beautiful man could mend my heart and make things normal. Instead, he pulls me from the embers and feeds me to the flames. What do you do when you’re both lost and on fire?

This is a stand-alone novel in the epic, best selling Halos Series.

My Review

Having read Shattering Halos, the story of Gaia and Guardian Angel Gabriel and meeting Cassiel the bad boy fallen Angel who gave no indication of changing his ways, reading Stargazer wasn't an option but a compulsion.

Luna is Gaia's sister who lives with her sister and her boyfriend Gabriel whilst attending college. She had a crush on Cassiel when she was fifteen and he just happens to turn up four years later. She is still attracted to him but giving in to her feelings would be like playing with fire. Cassiel on the other hand likes the good life and even though he is fascinated by Luna, he gives all indication that he intends to keep his way of life. Women, Champagne and strawberries being some of his pleasures!

Then there is Ka the other brother who wants Luna as his girlfriend but would Luna be better off with him? He too has his own flaws.

Reading this book was so worth it. It was nice to see more of Gaia and Gabriel and what transpires after Shattering Halos. Ms Dee doesn't give anything away and keeps you guessing right to the end. I would fully recommend this novel to those who like Angels, Bad Boys and a good love story. Even though this is a stand alone, it will be worth reading Shattering Halos too.

The other thing I want to say is Please Ms, can I have some more?

About the Author

Originally from Norway, I moved to the United States twelve years ago. I hold a Master's degree in languages and taught Spanish at college level before settling in at the Savannah College of Art and Design as an adviser.

I write New Adult fiction, sometimes with a paranormal twist—like in “Shattering Halos,” published by The Wild Rose Press in February 24th 2014 and in “Stargazer,” estimated release date, November 2014. The first book I’m self-publishing is the New Adult Contemporary novel “Pandora Wild Child,” which made me a proud indie author October 28th 2014!

I specialize in impulsive heroines, bad-boys, and good-boys running amok.

Then, there’s the intense love, physical and emotional attraction beyond reason—sensory overload for the reader as well as for the characters. Like in real life, I hope you’re unable to predict what comes next in my stories.

Yes, so I write what I love to read, and depending on the reader, you'll find my books to be a fast-paced emotional rollercoaster—or a disturbing read because the struggles of love aren’t your thing. Here’s to hoping you have the same reading vice as me! ;-)

Grave Omen - Paranormal Washington #3 by Diana Graves

Format                   Kindle

Genre                      Paranormal Fantasy

Living in a world of myths and legends of supernatural beasts and gods, Raina Kirkland has spent the last eight months searching for the vampire whose blood runs through her veins, but her search for her maker is halted when she receives a call from an old friend.

Large numbers of people are being kidnapped at random, stripped naked, caged and set on fire! The Ethereal Investigation Department calls on Raina and other bounty hunters for assistance.

However, between the case, a wedding, family drama and her newly found medical condition, Raina can’t see the storm approaching until she’s in the eye of it.

That awkward moment when you realize someone is trying to kill you.

"When love is not madness, it is not love."
~Pedro Calderon de la Barca

Warning: This book contains sex and violence. Suitable for mature readers only.
My Review

This book was given to me by the author in return for an honest review and I would also like to thank Ms Graves for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

After reading the first two books in this series, I was very keen to find out how Raina moves forward in  "Grave Omen" and it didn't disappoint.

So much has changed since the last book as Raina continues to grow in her abilities. This book is well written and the details are very well captured. Most of the occurrences in the book are totally unexpected. It is full of suspense and most of those loyal to Raina remain faithful but betrayal comes from where it is least expected and so does love. More unsettling secrets are revealed from Raina's past and her family. Just when I was beginning to like Raina's mother, more deceitful revelations are uncovered and I am not sure if she has any decency at all.

As for Rafael, it's difficult to know what his real objectives are and I admit that I find myself loathing him.

The most surprising news to me is the revelation of Raina's latest discovery about herself. I didn't see that one coming and all this amongst being pursued by ruthless murderers.

The other thing is,  being so self righteous, Raina is beginning to have dreams about multiple partners and it would appear that she is having problems getting these out of her mind despite the fact that she is living happily with Damon and her small family? Is this the making of a Demon or is she really changing personality?

I’m Luna, and I’ve been in the Twilight Zone since I moved in with my sister and her boyfriend.
I sense their secrets in every corner of the house.

Gabriel is eerily beautiful, and his personality disturbingly perfect, while Gaia’s inexplicable PTSD and mood swings bounce her between bliss and despair.

Until Gabriel’s brothers pay a visit.

He’s the night to his brother’s day. He’s sex personified and the devil in one hell of a stunning package. It’s been years since I last saw him, but this man makes me burn. He hooks me with his touch. Enthralls me with those oddly simmering eyes. He pierces my soul with his knowing smirks, and I am losing myself in him.

With pearlescent hair and spring green eyes, he crashes into my world. I thought this crazy, beautiful man could mend my bleeding heart. Make things recognizable again—normal. Instead he pulls me from the embers and feeds me to the open fire.

College life. Is this what everyone goes trough?

The night was grey when the doorbell rang, and I remained in bed for a minute, gathering my thoughts. I’d dreamed about Cassiel, a sweet mix between my regular dream from Spring Hills and the visit in his apartment yesterday.

The ringing became rhythmic. One long, two short. Another long and two short ones. I threw on the clothes I’d laid out for school and stumbled off to answer.

Outside, Cassiel stood with a small smirk playing on his face. Hands buried in his coat pockets, he looked down at me, awake and ready to go.
“Mornin’,” he said. “Rise and shine!”
“What? Why?” I squinted against the parking lights from his car. “Do we have some sort of…appointment?”

As usual, Zeebs wanted in on the fun. He purred, snaking between my ankles and peering up at Cassiel. I frowned, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. We hadn’t agreed to do anything today as far as I knew, much less at such an ungodly hour. I shoved my bed hair away for a glance at my watch, but before I managed, Cassiel replied.
“In my opinion, we do. It’s already five thirty, so we got to get going if you want fresh bagels.”
“Nu-huh, oh you are so kidding me. Five thirty? Dude! I’m not even hungry.”

Amusement made his eyes shine olive-green. “Don’t worry. You will be when we get there.”
“Cassiel? Rain check. What do you know about bagels here anyway—you just moved here. Besides, I can get fresh bagels whenever I want. With a toaster!”
His laughter rang out sexy, indecently awake. “Nope, not like these. You want them fresh from the oven. With…” He bent lazily, hands still in his pockets and his nose almost touching mine, “loads of homemade, sun-dried tomato cream cheese.”
“Cassiel,” I whined, snubbing the heat unfurling in my stomach at his closeness. “I could be sleeping right now.”
He clicked his tongue, ignoring my complaint. “Where’s your jacket? It’s freezing out here. And your shoes? C’mon.”

Oh no, he didn’t. Did he? Yeah, he freaking did. “Hey!” I cried out as he carried me to his Escalade. He opened the door and dumped me on the seat.

An hour later, the sun dusted into pinks outside, and light snores puffed out in muffled spurts from my sister. Curled up on the sofa, Gaia’s hands disappeared behind Gabriel’s waist, and her nose had burrowed deep against his stomach.

With his arms draped around her, he patiently followed the blur of dancers and colors wiggling across the screen. Gabriel had a peaceful air about him that I recognized; when Gaia was content, so was he.
His gaze flitted to me. “Wait,” he mouthed, and I nodded, surprised. Fluidly, he scooped up my sister and deposited her in their bedroom.

After he came back, he sank to the couch, crisscrossing his legs with more grace than any dancer.
“You’ve seen Cassiel.” His jewel eyes fixed on me. I inhaled sharply.
“Yes … how did you know?”
“I have my ways,” he said, his tone sweeter, humbler than Cassiel’s when he’d uttered the same words. Again I wondered how they could be brothers.  “Did he say why he’s in Shades Run?”
“Yeah, he thinks you need his help.”

Gabriel’s expression turned somber. His gaze sparkled, sweeping the ceiling before returning to me. For a second it reminded me of flashlights.
“When did he come to see you?” His voice sounded calm, but I sensed how important the question was. If I’d known the correct answer, I would have lied—anything for the relaxed happiness to return.

“Tuesday, at the cafeteria.” I tried to read his expression, but Gabriel’s face remained blank.
“Did he stay with you?”

What? Surely, he couldn’t be asking if he’d slept over?
I examined his features again. He didn’t appear uncomfortable or apologetic. Then again, I might not recognize such outlandish emotions on Gabriel. I gave up and went for the truth.
“We had coffee at his place. Later, he accompanied me to the audition for Sleeping Beauty, among other things.”
Plenty of other things.
Gabriel frowned. “He took you to his apartment? Are you okay?”
“Why shouldn’t I be okay, Gabriel? Oh, I get it—he’s an axe murderer, isn’t he?”

I burst out laughing, but Gabriel pinched the bridge of his nose
“What did he do to you, Luna?” The tone of his voice set my heart off in double beats.
“He made me a latte, that’s all. Oh, and he told me about a balcony scene nobody’s mentioned to me.”
I tried to glower at him, but it was difficult.
Gabriel gasped, and I knew. Of course he understood what I alluded to. Just like that, he’d triggered my anger, and now my glare came naturally.
“Yeah? What happened four years ago, Gabriel? You guys never tell me anything! I’m her sister. I love her like crazy. Don’t you think I deserve to know that she dove off a freaking roof?”
In our family, Gaia was the temperamental one. For the first time, I understood the allure of a good hissy fit.

Since I was little, my dreams often spun reality-based webs; if I fell asleep with the TV on, its babbling characters colored my nightly imagery. When I woke up, I’d always take a minute to discern the world around me.

This morning, I lay in bed studying the intact window. There wasn’t a sprinkle of glass anywhere, no paint chipped off the windowsill. Clearly, the shattered window had been part of my dream.
Cassiel’s visit was damn real, though. The way he held me, tempted me, I’d been seconds away from surrendering.
“I’m not done with you, Sweets.” Cassiel’s parting words jarred me. His effect on me…already, he had the power to destroy me and we hadn’t even slept together. This wasn’t how things should go. With his outlook on life—on women—he needed to stop festering in my heart.
How do I break this circle?

Then, there was the stranger appearing in my room. He’d been a full-on shock. Ka, was it? I clutched my head, trying to keep my brain under control.
In my mind, the reflection of Gabriel’s unknown brother still melted with my dream. Clearly, my subconscious had issues: a beautiful angel crash-landing in my bedroom?

I worked to separate the brother from Dream Guy, but Ka had Dream Guy’s face and body. What they didn’t share were the angel wings and that pretty sparkle.
Ka was one good-looking specimen. Damn good.

The Devil's Graveyards by TL Parker

Author                    TL Parker
Format                    Kindle
Print Length           290 pages
Publication Date    5 September 2014
My Rating                4 stars out of 5

A handful of people from across the globe and spanning four centuries, their lives bound together by fate, are guided toward the one thing they all have in common…the island.
A sultry breeze whispers warnings through the palms as a wounded sixteenth-century settler enters the island’s dark cavern, disturbing ancient secrets. Amid intertwined tendrils of vines growing without sunlight, he finds a mysterious power source which will change his life forever. His prayers are answered until he loses the woman he loves. The gift becomes a curse as he walks the earth alone, haunted by her memory.
Four-hundred years into the future, an aging scientist loses his job, his health, and his wife. Approaching the eventide of life, he dreams of youth and yearns for second chances. When his team discovers the island on an old map, he uses an emerging technology to harness the earth’s energy in an attempt to change the past.
The island is an eternal curse for some. For others, it is a new beginning. In a world where greed is a constant threat, the love of a beautiful woman must link them together in an adventure that defies the logics of time.

My Review

During a visit to Pakistan with his parents when he was a young boy, Henry came across a plane crash. Whilst rummaging through the debris, he found a stone which grew quite warm to his touch. He kept the stone, only to find out quite a few years later, what the energy from the stone could mean.

He created an organisation called DIRE together with his good friend Hoffman to experiment on the energies of the found stone. They then put together a team together to carry out these experiments with the right technology.

As time went on, Hoffman proved to be different from the person they all thought he was. Wealth turned into greed like it does in real life. This led to betrayal and cruelty.

This novel portrayed well known historical, mystical and mythical places as well as time travel. It is very well written and proved to be well researched too. There are elements of magic as well as science, making for a very interesting read. Once I got through the initial chapter, I was completely drawn to the story.

I liked the way William viewed and coped with the effects of the magical aspects of the story and the role Katherine played in that part.

I really enjoyed reading this novel and it is one that will stay with me for a long time to come.

The Branches of Time by Luca Rossi

Author                      Luca Rossi
Format                     Kindle
Print Length            159 pages
Publication Date    6 July 2014
My Rating                5 stars out of 5

The population of the island of Turios is mercilessly exterminated by the workings of black magic. Only Bashinoir, badly wounded, his wife Lil, and the Priestess Miril have survived. Determined to give their loved ones a worthy burial, the three soon discover that the corpses have disappeared. Their only hope for salvation now lies in the magical protection of the Temple, as sinister threats continue to pursue them. A shadow spreads over their hearts, dividing and destroying them, as their bodies appear to be fading away. Feeling increasingly isolated, Bashinoir watches as the two women grow closer…

In the Kingdom of Isk, wizards and wisemen alike must bow down before the insatiable King Beanor, whose greed for power and war is matched only by his hunger for sex. A young woman he has chosen as his next bride does not, however, wish to surrender her freedom to love and live. Will games and tricks under the sheets turn the tide in a war that has lasted thousands of years?
My Review

During a wedding ceremony on the Island of Turios, disaster strikes in the form of long sharp shards raining down from the sky. Before long, there is not much left but dead bodies in an endless pool of blood.

Whilst everyone else at the wedding is shredded to pieces, Bashinoir manages to get away with his wife Lil but sustains a severe leg injury in the process. When they arrive at the temple, they find that the only other survivor is the priestess Miril who didn't attend the wedding. Bashinoir goes out to establish what can be done to honour the deceased, only to find out that there is no trace of anyone and the blood has vanished too.

Beanor has numerous wives, is ruthless and rules his Kingdom on the Northern side of the Island, with fear. He is responsible for the demise of Turios through magic performed by a wizard under his rule in order to be able to cross the magical barrier between his kingdom and the island. Only things do not go quite as planned.

Whilst Bashinoir is recovering and trying to adjust to the fact that his friends and family are no longer alive, his wife Lil and Miril are becoming quite close to each other whereas he is feeling more and more isolated.

This novel is full of dark magic, cruelty, lust, despair and betrayal. I found it easy to read and it held my attention right to the end. It would appeal to those who like reading unpredictable mystical novels.

This novel was given to me by the author in return for an honest review.

Bad Boy Redemption - #3 of Bad Boy Rock Star by Candy J Starr

Author                      Candy J Starr
Format                      Kindle
Print Length             191 pages
Publication Date      13 July 2014
Genre                          Romance
My Rating                   5 stars out 5

Life is sweet for Hannah and Jack. Finally, they're together and Jack’s band, Storm, have been signed to a major label after completing a successful tour.

Then tragedy hits the band, sending Jack off the rails. Hannah wants him to make peace with the demons from his past but he refuses to take action. Meanwhile, Hannah has problems of her own when her father’s crimes are exposed, and are much worse than she’d ever expected.

Are they damned beyond repair or can their love redeem them?

This is the third and final book in the Bad Boy Rock Star series.

My Review

To me this is the best of the three books. Hannah and Jack both have to come to terms and cope with all the wrong doings which took place in their childhood. There are some shocking discoveries about their parents and the pressures of these discoveries have an adverse effect on their relationship, just when they thought all will be well.

To top it all, there is a terrible tragedy in the band and Jack is having trouble coping with this sad occurrence which could in fact destroy the band as Jack's behaviour becomes more and more erratic.

In book two, I felt that Hannah was indecisive and could easily be misled but not in this installment. Although she has her moments, she is more mature and her strength of character shines. She realises how badly she has been treated by her father and his so called friends and does her utmost best to do the right thing and clear her own name at the same time. She even puts her life on the line for her true love.

This book is action packed and a real emotional rollercoaster.
About the Author
Candy J. Starr used to be a band manager until she realised that the band she managed was so lacking in charisma that they actually sucked the charisma out of any room they played. “Screw you,” she said, leaving them to wallow in obscurity – totally forgetting that they owed her big bucks for video equipment hire.

Candy has filmed and interviewed some big names in the rock business, and a lot of small ones. She’s seen the dirty little secrets that go on in the back rooms of band venues. She’s seen the ugly side of rock and the very pretty one.

But, of course, everything she writes is fiction.
