The Blackest Red (#3 In The Shadows) by PT Michelle

No matter how hard I’ve tried to let go of Mister Black, the memories of us together torture me. They’re an unforgettable reminder of a life I can’t have for many reasons.

Burying myself in work mostly keeps thoughts of him to a screaming minimum, until he's thrust into my life under circumstances beyond my control. Despite my need for his protection, this time I’m not sure if I’m strong enough to survive with my heart intact.

He is Black: a fierce protector and irresistible charmer.

I am Red: a trouble magnet and rainbow weaver.

Together we ignite. Explosive colors merging at the hottest melting point.
NOTE: BLACKEST RED is meant for readers 18+ due to mature content. This is part 3 in the IN THE SHADOWS series and is approximately 369 print pages. The series must be read in the following order: MISTER BLACK (part 1), SCARLETT RED (part 2), and BLACKEST RED (part 3)

I first came across PT Michelle when I read The Brightest Kind of Darkness and became totally engrossed. When Mr Black came along in the "In the Shadows" series, I didn't know quite what to expect and wow, I fell in love with the characters and the story line urged me to read the rest of the series.

The Blackest Red is the last in this enthralling series. After Talia ran away from Sebastian six months ago to preserve her heart, she didn’t think she would see him again but sexy Sebastian doesn't give up very easily. Even though she ignored his correspondence,  he finds a way of getting back into her life when she is in danger once again. When she is introduced to her bodyguard, she is surprised to see Sebastian and the chemistry between them is as strong as ever.

Talia is on tour for the release of her new book and the story being too close to the truth,  she receives threatening letters giving her the ultimatum of giving up the book or die. Sebastian guards her with his life and being together constantly only fuels the chemistry between them. Talia is determined to keep her feelings from him to guard her heart since he has told her that he doesn't do long term commitments but Sebastian is not to be deterred.

This book is full of surprises, to me the biggest one of all is the revelation from her "beloved" aunt. Talia's secrets from her past are revealed and Sebastian has his fair share too. Talia trusts Sebastian with her safety but does she trust him enough to open up to him? It's a battle of the will, whereas Sebastian is determined to make Talia his, will he give in and open up to her to reveal his true feelings?

Oh! I do like the "chat" Sebastian has with Isobel! Brought a smile to my face.

This book contains the family drama, danger, betrayal, loyalty, rivalry, love and passion. I like everything about "In the Shadows" and will quite likely go back to read it again.

It would be nice to know if Cass and Calder eventually get together as well as finding out what's in store for Mina. Hint Hint. I love these two characters too.

Distraction by Angela McPherson

Author                               Angela McPherson
Format                               Kindle
Publication Date              August 2014
Genre                                 New Adult Romance
Rating                                4 stars out of 5

Aside from the normal changes in her life, college junior, Elle Richards, can always count on her friendship with Tristan. The longing for him to love her back is something she keeps well hidden, even from herself. No matter how many miles apart they are, regular phone calls and texts keep them close…until the day everything changes.

Wide Receiver Tristan Daniels has a good thing going. Much to his, and every single woman’s surprise, he’s in a committed relationship. The possibility of going pro looks more than promising…until his spur of the moment transfer to a rival college is approved. Now, Tristan will be forced to be in the presence of the woman he’s secretly loved for as long as he can remember. Elle.

Being away from one another was enough to keep Tristan and Elle distracted, but angst, confusion, and troubled secrets launches them into a breathless, heart pumping story you won’t want to miss!

Recommended for ages 18+

Tristan and Elle are childhood friends who confide in each other as well as having a lot in common with each other. Tristan is a popular and good football player who is now engaged to Kellie and they appear to be very much in love. Tristan transfers to the same college as Elle to improve his opportunity with his football career.

Elle is in love with Tristan and it comes as a bit of a shock to her when he tells her that he is engaged. Being in the same college puts a strain on their friendship, specially when Kellie starts to show her true colours. Although Tristan has strong feelings for Elle too, he thinks it's best they stay as friends, that is until Elle decides to move on when Eric comes in the picture. From then on, the story becomes more and more intense and the urge to keep turning the pages gets more intense too.

I like the way Alyssa, Elle's best friend speaks her mind and the way she banters with Tristan is quite comical but not so much with Ginger, their housemate. I enjoyed the different slant on two best friends being in love with each other and how Tristan's and Elle's reasons differ from one another. This New Adult Romance will suit those who like a book full of drama, keeping them on the edge of their seats.

His plan doesn't go quite as he expects and the complications could prove to be lethal to both of them. It is also difficult for Jak to know that what he is being told is the truth and if not, what are the motives.

This instalment has definitely left me wanting for more and I look forward to the next one.

Sometimes being with the one that you love hurts more than being without them.

“There’s nothing you can’t do if you want it bad enough.” This is the mantra Jordan Brewer drilled into my head since the day I met him. He convinced me nothing is out of my reach, not even him.

I love Jordan, and Jordan loves me, but something always gets in the way. I had to fight tooth and nail to convince him we belong together. Now he’s mine, but I’m not sure our love is strong enough to survive.
I’m away at school and Jordan’s playing drums for a local band. We hardly see each other, and when we do, he’s haunted by demons from his past. I’m struggling to fit in and he’s struggling with his ever-growing mountain of guilt. Will we be able to hold on to each other through the tough times, or will it all come tumbling down around us?

Jordan's and Stephanie's journey continues from For Always and as always, Ms Sibarium didn’t disappoint.

Stephanie is now embarking on the new and daunting venture of going to college, away from the home comfort. Jordan is still trying to come to terms with the terrible tragedy, which occurred in For Always. He is also practising and playing as a stand in, with a band and this has adverse effects on the amount of time he can spend with Stephanie. There appear to be some lack of judgement, mainly on Stephanie's part which leads to lack of trust and insecurities. Bad decisions are made from both of them, putting further strain on what could be the dream relationship.

When everything comes to a head, will their love for each other be able to withstand the strains? Like all the previous books from this author, emotions run high and the pull of these intense scenarios makes it difficult to put the book down. It is one I have thoroughly enjoyed reading and would recommend to those who like a good YA Romance.

Jasmine Freeman’s world is about to tumble down around her and the one responsible for it is none other than her first love, Derek Titan. She hasn't seen him in ten years, and they are both going to learn the truth of what happened back then.

Jasmine grew up wealthy and oblivious to the destruction her father caused all around him. Derek was from the wrong side of the tracks. In ten years their lives will be reversed. He is now a multi-billionaire tycoon and she works hard, but barely gets by due to her father’s unethical business practices.

Derek comes seeking revenge and instead finds out he has a half grown son and the woman he's been angry with for so many years is not who he thought she was. They both fight against the passion they still feel for each other, but in the end it is irresistible.

Come take the journey with Derek and Jasmine as they rediscover a passion that never died and the lies that kept them apart.

I was pulled in this story right from the beginning. I like the way the story was told. Derek and Jasmine were childhood sweethearts but due to an act of cruelty and betrayal, they ended hating each other.

They meet again ten years later in a complete role reversal. Despite the fact that the chemistry between them is still very strong, they both choose to make life difficult for each other. Derek more so than Jasmine. When the secret Jasmine is keeping from Derek is revealed, the situation becomes more awkward even though they both have to make allowances and compromises.

The full extent of the betrayal is not revealed until the end and this made me appreciate the way the story is told even more. I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

Archangel's Shadows (A Guild Hunter Novel) by Nalini Singh

Author                              Nalini Singh
Format                              Kindle
Publication Date             28 October 2014
Print Length                    384 pages
Genre                                Paranormal Romance
Rating                                5 stars out of 5

Return to New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh’s sensual and painfully beautiful Guild Hunter world in her new novel of sacrifice, loyalty, and the choices of love that can shatter the heart.

In the wake of a brutal war, the archangel Raphael and his hunter consort, Elena, are dealing with the treacherously shifting tides of archangelic politics and the people of a battered but not broken city. The last thing their city needs is more death, especially a death that bears the eerie signature of an insane enemy archangel who cannot—should not—be walking the streets.

This hunt must be undertaken with stealth and without alerting their people. It must be handled by those who can become shadows themselves…

Ash is a gifted tracker and a woman cursed with the ability to sense the secrets of anyone she touches. But there’s one man she knows all too well without a single instant of skin contact: Janvier, the dangerously sexy Cajun vampire who has fascinated and infuriated her for years. Now, as they track down a merciless killer, their cat-and-mouse game of flirtation and provocation has turned into a profound one of the heart. And this time, it is Ash’s secret, dark and terrible, that threatens to destroy them both.

After the epic battle in the previous book in the series, the city is still recovering from its aftermath as is Ashwini who was badly injured.

Ashwini is a Guild Hunter and like all the others, she has supernatural powers. Whilst she is recovering from an injury, a mummified dog is found and her boss asks her to investigate. What should have been a straightforward investigation turns into a nightmare due to the nature of the deterioration found in the dog. This is followed by another human casualty.

Janvier is a Vampire who idolises Ashwini and he helped to nurse her back to health, when she was injured. In the previous books, whenever his name was mentioned to Ashwini, she threatened to kill him but in a good natured sort of way. In this book we find out what they really feel for each other but Ashwini has secrets which stop her from forming a relationship. They are now working together to find a killer who preys on young women and they make the perfect team. Then,  there is Naasir who is a Vampire with a difference. Between them, they bring humour to this otherwise gruesome situation.

I have enjoyed every book in this series and this one is no different. It brings with it, danger, betrayal, suspense, cruelty, friendship, love and loyalty. I would recommend to those who like to read the paranormal genre.

About the Author

I've been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There's no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.

I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).

So far, I've worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer's mill.

And Forever by Danielle Sibarium Release Day Blitz

The long awaited sequel to For Always by Danielle Sibarium is being released today 19 February 2015.

This blurb is in Stephanie's point of view (POV) as in For Always. And Forever will be seen from Jordan's POV.

Promo Blurb

The scent of death lingers nearby. Always. Only I don't attract it like I once thought. I repel it, like a deflector shield. This is my lot in life, my special gift, to extend the days of those I love. That theory comes from Jordan; the keeper of my heart, and the love of my life!

I sigh. I don't realize I made a sound until Jordan apologizes. Again.

"I'm sorry, Steph. I just don't want to be distracted."
     "I know."

He misunderstands. It's a contented sigh. One that says I'm thrilled my boyfriend is driving me to school. It's a sign of how surreal sitting next to him and knowing that he loves me is. How I can't believe in a matter of hours he'll be leaving me alone on my college campus, and I intend to savor each minute with him, every possible second. The sigh is the only chance I have of communicating any of these sentiments because he doesn't want me to talk while he's driving. I know just being together in the car for this length of time is challenging for him.

Jordan still suffers the after effects of a terrible car accident that killed his ex-girlfriend. Ex as in he broke up with her minutes before it happened. When he served as my unexpected prom date, I pressed him to admit his feelings for me. That's what led to the break-up. Now he has to deal with the swamp of guilt-induced quick sand he's been left in. It hasn't been an easy road to get to where we are, but we worked through all that.

I hope.

"I'm doing the best I can, babe."
"I know." I don't bother saying anything further to reassure him that I'm not upset.
"Maybe you can find some music on the radio."

Maybe I would if I could hear what's on the radio. Every time I turn the volume up, he lowers it. The problem is he wants it down so low I can't hear the music. I glance at his hands on the steering wheel. He holds it in a death grip. His knuckles are white, and I think his fingers might snap in two any moment.

"I'm fine. Just happy to be here with you."
"Am not."

A car swerves slightly towards our lane. He lays on the horn and goes back to stoic silence. I hate that this is so hard for him. I want him to find his way back to being the carefree, flirtatious boy I fell in love with. I doubt he'll ever go back to being that person, and it makes me sad. I don't want him to carry all this pain for the rest of his life. I wish I knew how to make it better, but the only thing I can do is stand beside him and hope in time he'll heal.

I turn to my window, watching the never-ending expanse of trees zoom by. I wish for a fleeting moment I'd gone in the other car with my mother and her new, at least new to me, boyfriend Eddie. I'd been clueless about Eddie, but after her health scare last week, she came clean.

"There's someone I want you to meet," she said when he showed up at our house to visit her.

At that point she had no choice. She'd been ordered to take a few days off of work, where they'd rendezvous during lunch. She'd been frightened when they first told her it looked like a heart attack and realized it was silly to keep him hidden away. I can't imagine the cheesy conversations taking place in the other car, but I'm happy for her. My father died a decade ago and as far as I know she never dated before, so it's about time she gives someone a chance.

"Sorry." I hear the tension in his voice.
"No worries. It's all good, as long as I'm here with you."

I mean it, because even with the deafening silence, and the tension he carries on his shoulders every time we're in a car together, there is nowhere else I'd rather be. From the first moment he spoke to me, he owned my heart. It's branded with his name. I'd tried for four years to move on, to forget him, but that wasn't an option for me. No one can hold a candle to him.

"Hey," He pulls my attention back to the here and now. "You know I love you right?"

I smile. I'm sure it's just the reaction he hoped for. It feels like that's all I've done over the last week since he found me crying on the beach. I'll never forget the wave of relief that washed over me when I found out he'd been spared from a terrible plane crash. He never made it on the plane because I called him at the last minute in an attempt to convince him to stay. Thank goodness he did.

I always believed myself to be the root cause of the bad things that happen to people around me. Jordan thinks I'm what keeps them hanging on. I don't believe him, at least not yet. But having him try to convince me otherwise promises to be an amazing adventure.
