The Heart of a Rocky (#2 A Gardinian World Novel) by Kelsey Jordan

Author                          Kelsey Jordan
Publication Date         15 October 2014
Genre                            New Adult Paranormal Romance
Rating                            5 *****

The Takeover

Tor Omar James, King of the North African pride, needs one woman if he has any hope of keeping his sanity – Anise, his Soul’s Mate. There’s only one problem: she’s pregnant by Derrick, Tor of the United States pride. Anise is caught between the love that every Lycan covets and the motherly devotion to the son she would sacrifice so much for. Can Omar survive the takeover of the US pride and convince Anise that he is more man than lion?

The Defender

Asim Tyson, the Defender of the Hafiz, is fighting off the insanity of his longing after losing his Soul’s Mate in battle. Unfortunately, his self-centered existence results in the gross neglect of his people when they need him the most. When Harmony appears in his life, he is forced to make a choice. Should he resist the lure of Harmony’s caustic melody or embrace his weakness in order to keep her safe?

This second instalment of "A Guardinian World Novel" comprises of two novellas. The Takeover and The Defender.

The Takeover

Omar, the King of the North African Pride was introduced in The Lycan Hunter.

Anise is his Soul Mate but as it so happens she is pregnant with someone else's child. Omar plans a Takeover to claim Anise as his mate.

Derrick is currently leading this pride and his treatment of Anise leaves a lot to be desired. He has his own agenda and he doesn't appear to care about anyone else. When Omar arrives for the challenge, he is appalled at what Anise has to endure. Anise on the other hand has difficulties in trusting Omar because of the way she has been treated  by Derrick.

I found myself engrossed in this novella and couldn't wait to get to the next one.

The Defender

This novella is about Tyson who is still longing for the Soul Mate he lost eight years ago. He neglects his duties as the Defender of the Hafiz and is barely aware of what is going on around him.

When he comes across a battered Harmony who has managed to escape her captors, he begrudgingly takes her in. She is aware that he is her Soul Mate but his attitude doesn't encourage any interactions. She is in her "Rut" which can only be alleviated by having sex but Tyson is very reluctant to relieve her pain until he is left with no other solutions. It then transpires that there is a scam where the women are being abused in the worse possible ways.

Will Tyson pull himself together and put a stop to these atrocities?

Both these novellas are fast paced with the infusion of love, greed, deceit, justice and redemption. It's advisable to read The Lycan Hunter first for the useful background information on the world of the Lycans and the Hunters.

I received this book from the publisher in exchange

For Cohen Rodriguez, getting dumped by his girlfriend was bad enough. Being told he's “not impulsive enough” was just the cheap parting gift. Still, he takes a break from his über responsible ways and dates his way through Silver Strand. Except it's not exactly turning out the way he thought...

On top of that, there's Maren Walshe, whose combination of sexy and down-to-earth is everything Cohen wants in a girl. But while they've recently been talking on the phone and texting every day, they've never actually met. Now Maren wants to meet. In person.

Faced with turning his oh-so-safe fantasy girl into an uncertain reality, Cohen and Maren are both about to dive head first, ready or not.

Review 4 star Rating

Cohen works for his family furniture business. His long time girlfriend dumps him one morning because of his lack of impulsiveness. He goes on a few blind dates which turn out to be "quite interesting".

Maren works for the business too but in a remote capacity. She speaks to Cohen on the telephone daily and looks forward to these calls. They develop a very good telephone relationship and Maren likes Cohen's personality despite not knowing what he looks like.

Maren is going on a blind date and invites Cohen to join them as a blind date for one of her friends.

Cohen is attracted to Maren instantly but Maren has secrets which prevents her from having long term relationships. She keeps pushing Cohen away but he doesn't give up easily. She doesn't want him to know about the life that she leads for fear of rejection.

Will Cohen leave her to her own device when he discovers her secrets?

I admire Maren's loyalty even if it comes with a price. Will she accept the help being offered to make her life easier?

I like their interactions over the phone and in person. Both their families play a good part in their lives but in different ways.

This story is about coming of age whilst having to contend with some difficult and unusual situations.

It's a beautiful and emotive love story.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Lycan Hunter ( #1 A Guardinian World Novel) by Kelsey Jordan

Author                         Kelsey Jordan
Publication Date        2May 2014
Genre                           New Adult Paranormal Romance
Rating                           4 ****

When Alexis James arrives at her first assignment in months, she anticipates the danger and violence rife in her calling as a Lycan Hunter. What she doesn’t expect is a handsome, blue-eyed wolf saving her life and kidnapping her. Surrounded by the enemy, Alexis must not only survive her prisoners but the bonds of a different sort that begin to form against her will.
Mikko Kyran was chosen by the gods to lead his pack, and he has made it his mission to end the eight thousand years of war plaguing his people. The Alpha never suspected that the key to the prophecy ending the Forever War would be held by a smart-mouthed, sexy Hunter determined to kill him.

Can two people from different worlds set aside everything they know about one another long enough to survive retribution from the Hunters, the pack, and the gods? Or will their differences start a war that neither can win?

Written with intensity and depth, The Lycan Hunter is the first in a thrilling new series.

I like the way the Lycans and Hunters are introduced in this book. It gives a good overview of they were created and why they are at war with each other.

Alexis is a Hunter who is very focused on her job. As far as the Elders are concerned Lycans are abominations and should all be killed. Alexis knows nothing else outside of the Hunter's world and she is constantly proving herself as she is built differently to what is considered "normal" in her world.

Kyras is the Mikko which is the equivalent of an alpha in the Lycan world. The first time he sees Alexis, he is surprised to find that she is his Soul Mate. When Alexis is injured, he decides to save her and the more he sees her, the stronger the pull towards her. Being sworn enemies,  the two of them getting together is out of the question even though Kyras has his own views of the pointless war. Alexis is surprised to see their way of life which is the total opposite of what she has been led to believe. She is not totally unaware of Kyras either but the only solution is for her to leave to avoid causing any discord.

The Gods play a big part in the sequence of events as Kyras and Alexis have a role to play in a prophecy which can possibly end the war. This is the story of forbidden love with lies, deceit and heartbreak in the midst of the war.

The loyalty and family values are admirable in certain areas but pretty upsetting and disgusting in other areas.

I like Lykil, the God of destruction who surprisingly brings humour into play when least expected but beware, he is not to be underestimated. This story is completely different to any other I have read in this genre. It brings new and refreshing perspectives to the Lycan/Hunter world. I  am now keen to see what happens next.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Cat Love Cover Reveal by Sunniva Dee

Cat love banner

Cat lov front

Title: Cat Love
Author: Sunniva Dee
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release Date: October 5, 2015

Cover Design:  Clarise Tan, CT Cover Creations

A sexy thriller about the animal in all of us.

Aidan uses his superpower to stabilize minds at the Hollyreed Specialist Hospital. Ulani uses hers to chase rats on rooftops. Until she’s caught and deposited in Aidan’s care.

At the hospital, Aidan finds Ulani's room empty—save for a cat, whose fur retracts in favor of silky skin and a vamp-gorgeous femme fatale.

Aidan’s obsession with Ulani grows—
While patients at the hospital go missing.

At twenty-three, you think you’ve experienced a lot. Been there, done that for the most part. Older people might laugh at you for expressing such beliefs, but you still don’t expect to come across reality-altering experiences.

Here I am, with the morning energy of Seven setting in around me as I carry a small, lost cat from the locked unit back to my apartment… only the bundle of fur is changing.

There’s something wrong, I think, my thought natural and instinctive. But when her coat retracts against my hand, replaced by smooth, human skin, my intuition withdraws too and checks out.

I think I roar while she expands in my arms. I’m frozen in place, my vocal cords the only part of me responding. She grows heavier, longer, wider, until she plops from my hold and onto the floor. Vamp-red hair flames around her in bright waves, and is that a snarl lifting her lip?

For an instant, I swipe the hallway with my eyes, hoping someone sees what I see. No nurses, no doctors, only Mrs. Anderson’s ancient husband is there, fists clutching his walking chair while he takes in the apparition between us.

Not a thread covers stunning porcelain skin. She swings, bereaving me of my fleeting view of a small ruby-red triangle and kiss-shaped nipples, and leaps to the breakroom yards from where I stand.

Ulani’s gone. It takes me a moment to react. I meet old Robert Anderson’s incredulous gaze, and I shake my head at him, both denying what we’ve experienced and assuring him that we’re together in this.

As I turn to follow her, he mutters, “Holy God,” behind me, and my next session with a patient will have to be with Robert. He’s been free of Dr. Holstein’s treatments because of his quiet ways, but if he starts talking about this, he’ll quickly become another notch in the good doctor’s lab desk.

I just experienced something I never thought possible. A freaking cat morphed into a woman. Hell, this is what dreams and movies are made of. At the same time, I’m conditioned to react to the needs of my patients, which is why I chase after her now.

Besides Ulani, no one’s in the breakroom. She’s got part of the curtains draped around her, forming an orange toga, and bare toes with scarlet nail polish peek out. She’s stunning, but more than my physical attraction to her, her emotions fascinate me.

My years in this hospital are few, but the number of hours I’ve worked could double the years, and now it’s time to cloak myself in professionalism.

“Ulani,” I say. “Are you okay?” It’s a simple yet necessary question. Since I have no experience with cat women, I’m not privy to the sort of strain such a transformation can have on their bodies.

Her glare is not human, I realize. I was struck by the beauty of those irises the last time I saw her. Now, she narrows my view of saturated emeralds behind slitted eyes. She’s suspicious but not afraid—neither is she the slightest bit confused. This girl has issues, but they’re not on the mental level.

“Don’t. Say. Anything.” Ulani enunciates the words one by one, putting so much emphasis into her command that her intensity reverberates in my chest.

Efficient footsteps clack down the corridor outside. The slight shuffle of Dr. Holstein’s gait accompanies it. Laurie replies to his orders with “right, of course” and “certainly, Dr. Holstein,” but then they both come to a dead halt in the doorway.

“I found Ulani,” I say quietly.

“Remy, John!” Dr. Holstein barks down the hallway. “I need your assistance immediately.”

Saving Avery by Angela Snyder

Author                       Angela Snyder
Publication Date      21 July 2015
Genre                         Contemporary Romance
Rating                         5*****

Avery Mason had it all: the nice house, the fancy clothes, the expensive cars and the perfect husband. On the outside looking in, her life appears to be perfect. But inside, Avery knows her life is far from perfection as her husband's carefully constructed façade slowly starts to crumble.

Forced to fake a happy marriage while enduring physical and mental abuse from the man who had once been her whole world is taking its toll. And ever so slowly, Avery finds herself slipping into an existence where she is gradually becoming a shell of her former self.

When Dr. Max Harrison transfers from Chicago to North Carolina, his world is flipped upside down the moment he sees Avery. With one glimpse into her blue-gray eyes, he can see the pain she is so desperately hiding from the rest of the world.

As Avery attempts to push him away, he becomes convinced that there is more to her than meets the eye. And when he finally uncovers her darkest secret, the pieces of the puzzle slowly start to click into place.

Max and Avery want to be together, but nothing in life is ever that simple. It's not going to be easy to get her away from the powerful Mason family, but Max will risk everything to protect her. His only concern is Saving Avery.

** Due to mature content, it is not intended for people under 18 or people with triggers.**

Avery plans to take a year out to travel through Europe before embarking on her college venture. When she meets Nathan a successful Plastic Surgeon, she is smitten and abandons all her plans.

They get married and not long after, Avery realises that Nathan isn't who he appears to be. He dictates each and every aspect of her life and she is subjected to mental and physical abuse. She is no longer the carefree person she used to be and working on the children's ward is the only place she   feels happy.

Max has just started work in the hospital where Avery works and they both feel a connection between them when they first meet. Avery avoids interacting with Max for fear of what Nathan might do if they form any kind of relationship, besides Max makes her "feel"!

Max senses that something is wrong with Avery and becomes intent on finding out why she always looks so unhappy. Will he succeed in finding the cause of Avery's problems? He would do anything to make her happy but will Avery ever manage to get away from Nathan?

This story is full of surprises and there is betrayal where least expected. There is cruelty, despair, pain and uncertainty. Can true love prevail?

I like Avery's compassion despite all her heartaches and Max's determination and dedication even when everything is going against them. A very poignant story with palpable emotions.

Pembroke Sinclair Author Interview

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to ask you a few questions. This is a real privilege after reading the Road to Salvation series which really captivated my attention.

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

Ive been writing since I was young.  I wanted to be a writer when I was in high school, but I still had a lot to learn about the process.  It wasnt until after college when a friend encouraged me to submit some of my pieces that I decided to write.

How long does it take you to write a book?

It depends on what kind of book it is.  For my middle grade books, I like to challenge myself.  Since they are short generally 10 to 12 chapters long, I like to try to write a chapter a day and finish the book in about 2 weeks.  Then, I usually spend a few months editing it.

For my adult and young adult fiction, I can usually get a first draft done in about 3 months, but then it takes several more to edit.

Both of my nonfiction books took me about a year to complete.

What is your work schedule like when you're writing?

Since I have a full-time job, I try to squeeze writing in when I can.  That usually means on weekends, at lunch during the week, or after work.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

I still really enjoy handwriting stories.  It takes a little longer because I then have to type it, but it helps me develop my ideas.

Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

Depends.  Sometimes they come from a dream or a snippet of a conversation Ive overheard or something Ive read.  Ideas are everywhere; its just taking the time to develop them.

What do you like to do when you're not writing?

Well, as I said, I have a full-time job, so most of my day is filled with work.  Otherwise, Im hanging out with my family and taking care of my three dogs and one kitty.  In the winter, we snowmobile, so we try to spend a lot of time in the mountains.

What does your family think of your writing?

They are incredibly supportive and encouraging.  They get just as excited about my books coming out as I do.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

The characters usually take me to places I didnt expect.  Ill have an idea in my mind of what I think is going to happen in the story, but when I start writing it, the characters take over and take me in surprising directions.

For example, my original vision was that The Appel of Evil would be a stand-alone book, but Katies story became more complicated and she had so much more to say, so now its three.

What inspired you to write The Appeal of Evil?

The Appeal of Evil was inspired by a dream.  Originally, it was going to be a series of short stories, but the story was too long, so it became three books.

Katie's character is somewhat interesting. Can you tell me where the idea of her character came from?

When I came up with Katies character, I wondered what would happen if a teenage girl who has very little experience with love and life fell for a really bad boy, a demon.  What would her reaction be?  From there, Katie was created.

How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

I have written 8 novels, 2 middle grade books, and 2 nonfiction books as of now.  Honestly, my favorite is Wucaii.  I had so much fun writing that book—my main character is a human-dragon hybrid.

What do you think makes a good story?

Entertainment and investment.  If the reader or audience is invested in whats happening and its fun for them, then its a good story.

As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

I honestly dont remember.  But Im incredibly happy with where Im at!

Thank you for your time. It's been a pleasure talking to you.

Thank you so much for having me!

Baby Girl Box Set by Elle Klass

Author                        Elle Klass
Publication Date       13 July 2015
Genre                          Fantasy Romance
Rating                          5 *****

Abandoned at 12, Baby Girl is forced to face the harsh realities of life and struggles to find her path. She forages for sustenance, steals from the wealthy, and sleeps in any dark hole she can find. A ‘family’ of sorts forms between her and a band of other youngsters. Together they fight for survival, friendship, and love in the midst, but that is only the beginning. Life throws her one curve ball after another until secrets are revealed and the search for her true origins begins and ends with the powerful truth.

In the Beginning

Cleo lives with her mother and doesn't know her father. She lives a very sheltered life, besides going to school. They have a very simple and somewhat poor lifestyle except for the odd occasions, when her mother would disappear for a few days and return with food and clothes.

Cloe is now twelve years old and when her mother goes absent for longer than usual, she decides to pack up and run. During that time, she learns how to fend for herself until she meets others who are in a similar situation to hers, including Einstein who is the oldest and assumes the role of their leader.

Cloe and Einstein make plans for the future to keep them safe but just when they think everything is going to plan, something goes drastically wrong.

Moonlighting in Paris

Having changed her identify in book one, Cleo is now known as Justine. She changes her looks to suit her name and her new life in Paris. When Justine walks in a hotel to book her accommodation, she meets Didier, the manager and owner of the hotel.

Didier takes an instant liking to her and she finds her lifestyle changing from one extreme to the other and she adapts fairly quickly to the change. Then comes the twist which changes everything.

City by the Bay

Cleo is back in America, she changes her identity yet again and is now Shanna Nu. She is successful in obtaining a job with an investigative agency and as it so happens the Private Investigator could well have some of the answers she is looking for.

As the story unravels, things begin to fall into place and Shanna is more intent on obtaining more answers which will hopefully bring more clarity to her quest.

Biting the Big Apple

Shanna is now working for "Briggs" a very wealthy and powerful family in the hope of uncovering some of the mysteries surrounding her life.

She carries her own investigations methodically and is determined enough not to be deterred by anything or anybody. More surprises are in store and emotions run high. The story flows nicely bringing with it a sense of achievement and closure.

I had already read these books individually and the author adding a prologue and an epilogue to the box set have made the series more complete.
About the Author

Elle was born into this world in Redwood City, California and spent her childhood growing in and around the San Francisco Bay Area. She graduated from the
University of North Florida with a bachelor’s degree in education. For fun she reads, spends time at the beach, travels, and enjoys time with her friends, and family. She is a night-owl known to be a hermit during rainy days, as she has a love for sun, and is mostly found poolside over the hot, humid summer months.

They said they would try. They said they would give their love a chance.

But when the mistakes of Gabriel's past clashed with Nicole's hopes for the future, they realized love wasn't enough. They tied up the loose ends of their broken hearts and walked away.

Now, Gabriel's career is on a meteoric rise and he is back to his bachelor ways. He told Nicole he couldn't promise forever and did his best to let her go, but these days he wonders if he spoke too soon.

Nicole has a new life, a new man, and she refuses to look back. To everyone around her though, not looking back looks an awful lot like running scared from the past.

With Jackie and Ian's wedding approaching, a reunion between the best man and the maid of honor is to be expected. What they don't expect is for the olive branch of friendship to catch fire with a love and need that is stronger than even their best intentions.

They called it quits. But is it really over? They still love each other. But does that even matter when they've made up their minds that there's no going back?

*NOTE* Mind Over Matter is the third and final book in the Loose Ends series.

After what happened between Nicole and Gabriel leading to their break up, Nicole has moved on.

She is now an author and is moving in with Travis who is madly in love with her. She convinces herself and everyone else around her that she is happy with the changes in her life.

The first time she sees Gabriel again, old feelings resurface. From then on there are a lot of going back and forth. Nicole's pride won't let her admit to her true feelings, besides she doesn't want to hurt Travis. Gabriel doesn't want to hurt her again but the longing to be with her is always there.

Will either of them make the decision to give each other a second chance? What about Travis, is he prepared to let let go so easily?

It's full of love and laughter one minute, then tears and sorrow. There is also the element of trust or lack of.

A well put together series with an intense emotional ride.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Good Intentions (#3 The Road to Salvation) by Pembroke Sinclair

Author                        Pembroke Sinclair
Publication Date       July 2015
Genre                         Young Adult Paranormal Romance
Rating                         5 *****

This picked up right where book two left off and completely blew me away!

Katie has made her choice and as far as she is concerned, this is the right decision. She feels loved and protected by Josh and can’t be any happier. Bredan continues to try and throw the spanner in the works. Lucifer has convinced Katie that she is on the right path.

Wes turns up but are his intentions what they appear to be?

Katie has something everyone wants! She gets little hints about certain things not being quite right but she always manages to justify them. Eventually everything goes from bad to worse and she no longer knows who to trust.

I like the development of the characters! They all come up with surprises, some are very good and others are quite shocking. The ending is epic. The build up is remarkable.

I devoured this book and would recommend this series to those who like to become involved with the characters and sitting on the edge of their seats.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for giving me this opportunity.
