Pia does Hollywood (Elder Races #8.6) by Thea Harrison

Author                     Thea Harrison
Publication Date    17 November 2015
Genre                       Adult Paranormal Thriller Romance

After making a diplomatic pact with humankind and the other leaders of the Elder Races, Pia Cuelebre, mate to Dragos Cuelebre, Lord of the Wyr, reluctantly heads to Hollywood to spend a week with the Light Fae Queen, Tatiana, before the busy Masque season hits New York in December.

Dragos has never let the lack of an invitation stop him from doing anything he wanted. Unwilling to let his mate make the trip without him, he travels to southern California in secret to be with her.

But when an ancient enemy launches a shattering assault against the Light Fae, Dragos and Pia must intercede. The destruction threatens to spread and strike a mortal blow against all of the magically gifted, both human and Elder Race alike.

Working with the Light Fae to neutralize the danger, Dragos and Pia find their deepest vulnerabilities challenged and their most closely held secrets threatened with exposure.

This is a great follow on to "Dragos goes to Washington", where Pia and Dragos had some exciting news amongst all the chaos as per usual.

Pia is committed to stay with another family from the Elder Races for a week. As this is part of a protocol, she decides to get it over and done with. Neither Pia nor Dragos are happy about this visit to Hollywood but duty calls! The other snag is that Dragos cannot see her during that week. Oh dear! Does Dragos ever do as he is told though?

When Pia and her bodyguards arrive in Hollywood, she senses that things aren't quite right but unable to figure out what. Tatiana, the Light Fae Queen is not forthcoming with any information either. In the meantime Dragos is hanging around, cloaked! When he sees this rare set of jewellery, he is unable to resist investigating. Blame his dragon's senses! This is where he gets more than he bargains for. Not hearing from him is driving Pia out of her mind with worry.

What transpires when Dragos eventually turns up is horrific. This is when the Light Fae decides to come clean. They are all under threat from a powerful and ruthless enemy. Will they be able to come up with a solution and save the day?

This series never lets the readers down. There is all the action, the suspense, the magic and the danger. The love and dedication between Pia and Dragos get better and better. Peanut is turning into a real darling and now there is the Stinkpot. Now, that is something else to look forward to. I hope to see more of Morgan and learn who he really is.

Fully recommended, not that the fans of the Elder Races need any encouragement.

I write paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and other stuff. I taught myself to read when I was four. That was around the time I tried to ride my tricycle to work. I wasn't sure where work was, but I knew it had to be interesting if people went there every day. Now I combine my love of books with work, and I don't have to ride my tricycle to get there. My Elder Races series began May, 2011. You can also find me on Twitter and Facebook!

Decide (# .5 Declan Reed - The Untold Story) by Michelle Irwin

Author                       Michelle Irwin
Publication Date      27 August 2015
Genre                          New Adult Romance

Strap in, get ready to start your engines and see where it all began.

From an early age, Declan Reede’s only goal was to race in the ProV8 Championship Series. One thing he couldn’t anticipate was that a blistering kiss shared with his best friend, Alyssa Dawson, might derail his plans.

While he knows things between them will never be the same, it’s impossible to predict just where the road will take them, or how rocky it might get.

Will he decide to fight for love or follow his dreams?

Declan and Alyssa have been best friends since they were kids. They are still best friends who have no secrets for each other but they now that they are in their teens, everything starts to change.

Declan starts to see Alyssa in a different light and realises that his feelings run deeper than friendship. It turns out that Alyssa feels the same way even though they don't always see eye to eye.

They have different goals for the future. Declan is set on making a career on the race tracks whilst Alyssa just wants to go to college and have a "normal" life. Are they mature enough to come to a compromise or will they decide to stick to their own plans?

They have lots of ups and downs throughout this novella and to make matters worse, Declan's father is trying to live his dreams through his son. No pressure there then!

I really like Declan as he is not really that bad. He does his best to make Alyssa happy but somehow doesn't always succeed. Alyssa is lovable too but shows no interest when it comes to Declan's ambitions.

This is the first book which I have read by this author and it's truly captivating. It's about  true friendship, first love, rivalry and all the angst of being a teenager. Making the right decision at that age is tough! Will either of them see each other's view points and make allowances?

The other thing is,  as this is related in Declan's POV, it's difficult to gage what is really going through Alyssa's mind. It will be interesting to see where this goes next, especially after the way it ends. Intriguing indeed!

Michelle Irwin has been many things in her life: a hobbit taking a precious item to a fiery mountain; a young child stepping through the back of a wardrobe into another land; the last human stranded not-quite-alone in space three million years in the future; a young girl willing to fight for the love of a vampire; and a time-travelling madman in a box. She achieved all of these feats and many more through her voracious reading habit. Eventually, so much reading had to have an effect and the cast of characters inside her mind took over and spilled out onto the page.

Michelle lives in sunny Queensland in the land down under with her surprisingly patient husband and ever-intriguing daughter, carving out precious moments of writing and reading time around her accounts-based day job. A lover of love and overcoming the odds, she primarily writes paranormal and fantasy romance.

Project Virgin by Megan Crane

Author                      Magan Crane
Publication Date     16 December 2015
Genre                         Adult Contemporary Romance

Maybe the worst idea she’s ever had is actually the best thing she could ever do…

Newbie lawyer Scottie Grey spent entirely too many years listening to her ex-fiancĂ©’s lies. Now that she’s finally kicked that cheater out of her life, she wants to waste no time getting rid of the albatross around her neck: her virginity.

Damon Patrick is the worst possible candidate for the project. He’s too good-looking, too experienced. He’s too well known around San Francisco—mostly for his many sexual exploits.

He’s also kinda, sorta Scottie’s boss.

Damon is the worst man for the job imaginable… which might just make him the only one Scottie can imagine giving her virginity to after all.

Scottie has been engaged to Alexander for six years but her virtue is still intact! According to Alexander, it's for traditional reasons but Scottie eventually uncovers the real reasons why,  and kicks him out.

Scottie is a lawyer working for Damon who is well renowned for his success as a lawyer and his ways with women. He is every woman's dream in the company he works for and even Scottie isn't totally indifferent but he is out of bound. Or is he? They end up spending the night together and what he discloses to Scottie about the reasons for his womanising comes as quite a surprise. She is faced with even more surprises on her return to work. Will she see Damon again? Can this one night stand turn into something more, taking Damon's past into account?

This is a story about two entirely different people coming together in the most unexpected manner. It's  short and sweet with some steamy moments. Well put together for such a short read.

I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the publisher via NetGalley. This has no bearing on my review of this book.

Lady of the Loch by John C Ryan

Author                      John C Ryan
Publication Date    16 August 2015
Genre                       Contemporary Romance Thriller

Grateful to be rescued from a watery grave, yet mortified she lay naked in a strange man’s arms, Paden can’t believe her savior is none other than the notorious Black Knight—a man accused of murdering his twin brother to secure his lairdship.

Determined there is more to the story, she steals away with him instead of marrying the man of her father’s choosing, and helps her Black Knight try to prove his innocence.

Battles wage, blood is shed, and secrets are a matter of life and death.

Will he be sent to the gallows, or will their love, and her belief in him, prevail?

This story takes place during the time when England and Scotland were in a conflict escalating to a war. It is set in Scotland.

Paden is to marry a man thought worthy of her by her father and although she is not keen on the idea of marrying someone she has never met, she doesn't have any option as this is part of tradition. She is very close to her protective brother,  Richard. The day before she meets her betrothed, she goes for a swim in the lake accompanied by her brother. It's a dangerous time as there are traitors within the fold and English soldiers could be anywhere.

Faolin is known as the Black Knight after being accused of the alleged murder of his twin brother. On his way to follow a lead which could well lead to the truth, he spots Paden who has been knocked by the branch of a tree rendering her unconscious in the lake. He goes to her rescue and is instantly bewitched by her. Once she has recovered and proven how fiesty she can be, he proceeds with his mission. However, upon reaching his destination, he uncovers a plot which involves Paden's life being in possible danger as well as unexpected information about the alleged murder.

Armed with this knowledge, his priority is to keep Paden safe before dealing with the traitors. Being the Black Knight and considered to be dangerous, how is he going to convince Paden of the danger without alerting her family? Paden's dream has always been to marry for love and not by arrangement. Will she listen to her heart and take a chance with Faolin?

The interactions between Paden and Faolin are full of love and humour, even when there is a war looming on the horizon. I like the twists and turns which make for an interesting read. The characters are very well developed, some lovable and some utterly repulsive! It's an easy read full of surprises.

I was fortunate enough to receive an ecopy of this book from NetGalley.

New (and hopeful) author of Historical Romances, especially of Scotland and the British Isles. Love to write about kilts and Celts with my cats and a Cabernet.

When not engrossed in the creation of my next novel, or rapt in dreams of romance in the beautiful Emerald Isles, I share my home in New York with a myriad of pets, several of them handicap, and the love of my life, Elizabeth, a Veterinary nurse.

One of eight children, I credit my parents with stoking my interest in my Celtic heritage. My father, of Irish descent, passed prematurely from an illness attributed to his tenure in the New York City Fire Department. He was my living example of the Ryan creed, Death before Dishonor. My mother, a registered nurse, has Italian roots and has traveled throughout the world. She instilled in me a sense of wonder for faraway lands and exotic settings.

An uncle to nearly 20 nieces and nephews, I find great joy in being a part of their lives and hope to be as fine an example to them as my character, Sir Thayer, in my debut novel, Two Lairds One Lady.
