Rush by Shae Ross

Author                           Shae Ross
Publication Date          9 May 2016
Genre                              New Adult Romance

Priscilla Winslow has a mouth that spits fiery sarcasm faster than I can throw a touchdown. But I’ve wanted her ever since I saw her in that Bo Peep outfit on Halloween. Yep, I’m a sheep who will follow that little hottie anywhere. There’s one problem…she hates me. Just because we ended up in jail and quite possibly ruined both our futures...

They’re changing the rules…

College Quarterback, Preston Rush is living the dream. He’s leading his team to the National Championship and days away from earning a ‘first round draft pick’ label. When he meets Little Bo Peep at a Halloween party, he thinks he’s scored big. Instead, he wakes up in a jail cell with the corseted beauty. Because of him, she’s in trouble and when he discovers her true identity, he realizes, his nightmare is just beginning.

The always shooting for perfection Priscilla Winslow can’t believe her good deed has cost her soccer career. Even though she knows it isn’t Preston’s fault, she can’t forgive him for the disaster that is her life. She just wishes her damn body would get the message. Every time she sees him, it’s all she can do not to kiss him.

When everything crashes down around him, Preston will have to decide if doing the right thing is worth losing it all.

Preston is the college quarter back who has a successful career ahead of him. He comes from a poor family which makes him more determined to get to the top in order to help his family have a more comfortable life.

Priscilla is a soccer player who comes from a fairly well off family but her life is far from perfect due to parental issues. She is close to her siblings despite their occasional squabbles. She too is on her way up in her career as well as being dedicated to those less fortunate than herself.

Preston and Priscilla come across each other at a fancy dress party and there is this instant attraction between them. Unfortunately, things take a turn for the worse when Preston finds himself being physically assaulted. Priscilla witnesses the incident and immediately goes to the rescue. They both end up in the same cell in jail. They form this casual relationship or so they think! When the implications of what's happened hit them, they both realise that their careers might well be in jeopardy. The consequences for Priscilla are pretty harsh and even though she is attracted Preston, she can't help but blame him, especially when he is not available for any assistance. Priscilla is quick to jump to conclusions. The problem is that she is still attracted to Preston who thinks that she hates him.

As the story unfolds, they both learn more about each other but Preston is keeping a secret, partly out of shame and partly to protect Priscilla. She is not aware of the reasons why he refuses to divulge what he is hiding from her. To make matters worse, Amelia, Preston's ex puts more doubt in Priscilla's head. This is where trust or lack of comes into play.

I like the way Priscilla and Preston interact with each other. Their relationship is a gradual build up which leads to the question, are they or aren't they? Preston is eager to get to the top but that doesn't stop him from doing what he thinks is right at the cost of possibly losing his chances. Priscilla jumps to the wrong conclusions on more than one occasion but she doesn't hide behind her insecurities. She owns up and readily apologises. She is also dedicated to her team and to those in need.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. It's full of fun and laughter. There are uncertainties, greed, corruption, bullying, friendship and loyalty. The love between Preston and Priscilla is very palpable even when they think that they have to eventually part ways.

It's very well written. I love the storyline where all the characters are believable. Preston and Priscilla both shine throughout the story. I would fully recommend this New Adult Romance to other readers.

Synopsis

Blake Mahone may not be done with women, but hes finished with relationships. Then Gabby Morgan enters the picture. Shes flawless, refined, and as his kids teacher, way out of his league. She acts like she hates him, but her eyes tell a different story. Before he knows it, Blake finds himself hot for teacher, and hes more than ready to learn all her secrets. Now all he has to do is convince her to give him a shotwithout getting them both killed in the process.

Review

The Spartan is now a Biker's Club as opposed to an MC. They are striving to stay on the straight and narrow, keeping their line of business legitimate but with the rivalry of another MC, this can soon change.

Blake is the prez of the Spartan Riders. He is a lone parent since his ex, Jodi walked out. She is a terrible character! No wonder that Blake is no longer interested in any relationships. He dedicates his time to the club and his son, Ash who is adorable.

Gabby is alive by the skin of her teeth. She is now living with her parents and has started a new life as a teacher. She has sworn off Bikers after her terrible ordeal but the first time that she sets eyes on the dark, handsome and broody Blake, something stirs within her.

Gabby and Ash start to form a bond whilst waiting for Blake who is late picking Ash up from school on more than one occasion! Gabby is furious with Blake, thinking that he is inconsiderate. Blake thinks that Gabby is very "stiff upper lip". When Ash invites Gabby to a family barbecue, she goes along and soon finds out that there is more to Blake than meets the eyes. Blake notices a few things that he likes about her too and just like that they start spending time together. Gabby starts to divulge her past to Blake and vice versa but just when they get comfortable with each other, the past comes crashing back.

Gabby is in terrible danger and Blake is frantic. It's during that time when her life flashes before her eyes that Gabby realises what she will be missing. Blake and Ash! Will Blake be able to save her? Then, there are other secrets that Gabby has been keeping from Blake. These can only complicate matters. To top it all, they have the same enemies in common.

I really like Blake's character. He is loyal and dedicated despite giving the tough impression. Gabby is compassionate, loving and tends to make the wrong decisions at times but it's those decisions that make this story what it is. It's a beautifully portrayed story. It has humour, love, passion, loyalty, betrayal, danger and some violence. I like the positive family atmosphere that it projects. The pace and suspense sure kept me on the edge of my seat and I would fully recommend to other readers. It's a great start to this new series.

EXCERPT

Inside Sheoul, the demon realm sometimes called Hell, evil was everywhere.

It dripped off the sides of the sheer rock walls in streaks of black acid that ate into the stone with a hiss. It wafted through the humid air on tendrils of mist that reeked of sulfur and decaying flesh. And, as Vex watched, it oozed like toothpaste from out of a fissure in midair that only people like her could see.

Her purple-tipped black hair, already short and spiky, stood even more on end as the thing squeezing out of the fissure, a dead demon’s soul, popped free of whatever realm and mystical enclosure it had been inside. The toothpastey glob took a transparent, vaguely humanoid shape, but its glowing crimson eyes were sharp and clear. A malevolent wave of rage and hate rolled off the soul, and Vex backed away, even though escape was impossible for her.

She was what her parents had called a daemani, a demon soul magnet, a person to whom souls stuck like glue. According to them, most daemanis couldn’t prevent it from happening, and that was a serious pain in the ass. If a demon died near Vex, not even the Grim Reaper’s personal daemanis, creatures called griminions, had a chance to collect the soul before it got sucked into her and stored as a glyph on her skin.

The demon shrieked, a sound only she or another soul-sensitive person could hear, as it struggled to keep from being sucked into the prison of her body. In a futile attempt to avoid the inevitable, she fled, her booted feet nimbly negotiating the rock shard-strewn ground that was all too common in this part of Sheoul.

But no matter how fast she ran, every time she looked over her shoulder, the distance between her and the soul had decreased. Closer. Closer.

Review

This instalment takes place mainly in the realm of Azagoth, the Grim Reaper.

Zhubaal aka Z is a Fallen Angel and the right wing man of Azagoth. He is in search of Laura, the love of his life who is reincarnated. He made an oath to her a century ago and he intends to honour this oath. The problem is finding her. Not much luck so far!

Vex is an Enim and a soul magnet! Now that the market is slowing down, she is having difficulties getting rid of said souls and her finance is rather depleted. Her only answer is Azagoth. Getting him to agree to a deal will solve her financial problem as well as raising her status. Sounds reasonable!

When Vex arrives in the realm, she is met by Z. He is now aware that one of the souls attached to her could well be Laura. At long last! Releasing these souls prove to be more difficult than anticipated whilst at the same time the two of them are drawn to each other. Z is getting impatient to reconnect with Laura but is he in for a surprise? What transpires comes to him as a real shock and poor Vex is on the receiving end of his frustration. His behaviour towards her is very fickle. One minute, he is giving in to the attraction and rejecting her in the next minute. Is she going to put up with his unpredictable behaviour? He could lose what he has always dreamt of and is right before his eyes if he doesn't accept things as they are.

This instalment is as intriguing and captivating as the previous ones and in a class of its own. I would recommend this whole series to other readers.

I was kindly gifted with an advanced ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Release Day Blitz for My Russian Nightmare by Danielle Sibarium

Author                      Danielle Sibarium
Publication Date     22 April 2016
Genre                        New Adult Romance

Stolen from my brother’s bedside by bad men with evil intentions. Tall, dark, and terrifying, one stands out. Dimitri shows tenderness and kindness that the other members of the Russian mob seem incapable of.

There’s something familiar and comforting about him. Something that draws me in. I feel safe when he’s near and long to feel his protective arms around me. The more time I spend with him, the more of my heart he steals and the harder it is for me to fight my attraction to him

I want to trust him, to believe he’ll keep me safe, but secrets begin to surface. Secrets with deadly consequences. Dark secrets that have been following us both for years.

Trusting him threatens to break me. Not trusting him threatens to kill me.

No matter what I choose, my life will never be the same.

This is about the hold and power that a mob can have over the enemy.

Kiera is an orphan and currently a student. Her brother Sammy is her overprotective guardian. They have their differences but will do anything for each other.

Dimitri is part of the Russian mob. He hasn't always had an easy life due to the circumstances under which he was born.

Kiera receives news of her brother being hospitalised due to a severe physical assault. She goes to visit and is shocked at the state he is in but she is in for another unpleasant surprise. Dimitri is waiting for her and before she knows what's happening, she is abducted. Two of the mob members are pretty heartless whilst Dimitri appears to be the kindest one. He doesn't manhandle her like the others.

Kiera finds herself in a dark room but doesn't remember how she got there. Dimitri is her guard and does his best not to make her more uncomfortable than she is. There is a familiarity to him that she cannot quite comprehend. She feels this pull towards him even when her mind screams at her not to trust him. Soon the shocking revelations of why she is in this situation come to the surface. It would appear that she has been a target for quite a long time. She is surprised to find that Dimitri seems to know so much about her. Past memories resurface and Kiera and Dimitri start to form a relationship which could put both their lives at risk. Can Kiera trust Dimitri to get her out of this sticky situation? He is a part of the mob after all. As the story develops more and more dark secrets come to the surface, some of which could make or break them.

There is corruption, violence, greed, lack of trust and unconditional love. I like the intensity with which Dimitri sets about to achieve what might look to be impossible. Kiera is in conflict with her feelings which is quite understandable under the circumstances.

This story is very well paced and everything falls nicely into place. The characters are well developed and the book itself is quite the page turner which I would recommend to others.

I was kindly issued with an advanced ecopy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Danielle Sibarium grew up as an only child of divorced parents in Brooklyn, New York. Her imagination was developed at an early age. Surrounded by stuffed animals and imaginary friends, she transported herself into a fantasy world full of magic and wonder. Books were the gateway between her play world and reality. On any given summer afternoon she became Snow White sweeping and cooking for the dwarfs, or Cinderella waiting for the prince.

Danielle always loved dialogue and in elementary school began writing plays and short stories. This is when she began to understand she could not only bring her fantastical world to life for herself, but she could enchant others as well. And so she wrote. She wrote and wrote and wrote.

Sadly the first piece she ever sent out for publication of any sort was a letter to the editor of The Home News Tribune. It was a piece thanking the first responders for their bravery and selflessness on Sept 11th. It was chosen as letter of the week.

In 2007 Danielle collaborated with Charlotte Doreen Small to write songs for her CD More. Danielle wrote the lyrics for Take My Hand, and Goodbye, while Charlotte contributed the melody.

In October 2011 Danielle’s debut novel For Always was released. She Has since released Heart Waves and the second book in the Heart Waves series, Breaking Waves

Paper Dolls by Hanna Peach

Author                         Hanna Peach
Publication Date        24 April 2016
Genre                            New Adult Romance

My life comes down to this. Two faces. One choice.

Salem is my twin sister. She loved me. She protected me. She forgave me, even after I failed her. I just got her back after searching for three long, lonely years.

Then there’s Clay. Sweet yet intense and nursing a dark past of his own, he’s all the redemption I don’t deserve. He wants to open me up and know the insides of my soul. I want to let him, but I’m scared he’ll run from what he finds.

But I can’t have them both.

My name is Aria. I'm 18. And today, I must choose. One of the two people I love has to die.

The opening to this book really piques the interest. Having to choose between two loved ones can't be easy. There is only one way to find out. Keep on reading!

Aria is an eighteen year old, trying to find her twin sister Salem who ran away three years ago. She ends up in Mirage Falls where she finds a job in a lingerie shop. Well the shop sells lingerie amongst other things!

Clay is an artist who takes an interest in Aria. They have this comfortable relationship which could turn in something serious. At this point Aria has more or less given up on finding her twin.

Clay is dedicated to Aria and she has come to rely on being around him. Salem makes a reappearance and as happy as Aria is to be reunited, some things start to become "hazy". Salem is not keen on Clay as she claims that he is not being honest with Aria. Salem is very domineering and is quite intent on pulling Clay and Aria apart. She starts to put doubt in Aria's head, then there is a sequence of events such as an accident which can't be put down as a coincidence.

This is a story like no other. Nothing is what it seems. Clay has his own issues which he deals with quite admirably. Aria on the other hand is torn between her love for him and her love for her sister. When the time comes for Aria to chose, her past resurfaces and she starts to remember long forgotten traumas. The surprises keep coming, putting a different perspective on the whole story. Most of them totally unexpected.

I like Clay's patience and the way he deals with these difficult situations despite his own problems. Aria is trying to do right by everyone but will the circumstances allow her to succeed? As for Salem, she is very difficult to gage as she is so elusive and secretive about what she is getting up to.

This is a very gripping story. It shows how some traumatic experiences can cause the perceptions of reality to become severely distorted, that is until the truth eventually overwhelms the distortion. It also shows the effects of the power of true love.

It's very well written and I would recommend to other readers but be aware that some of the contents such as sexual abuse and mental illness can be distressing to some.

I was kindly issued with an advance ecopy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Synopsis

How far will one man go for the woman hes loved since high school?

Jamie Kingston has been Brynn Chandlers best friend since middle school. Only once was their friendship testedwhen Brynn gave Jamie a single kiss. Since then, theyve had an unspoken agreement never to cross that line again, and shes ready to let go of the past and move on.

Knowing this is his last chance, he asks Brynn to go on a two-week road trip. But their time alone brings old hurts to the surface, and Brynn has to decide if the one that got away lies at the end of the journey or if hes been by her side all along.

Review

Jamie and Brynn are High School best friends but Jamie is in love with Brynn but keeps it to himself as Brynn is crushing on someone else. Brynn gets all excited about a party where she might just hook up with Spencer, her dream guy. Things don't work quite as planned and in the process she ends up kissing Jamie putting them in an awkward situation!

Fast forward to ten years later. Jamie and Brynn remain best friends, still dancing around their true feelings for each other. A ten year reunion is being held and Brynn gets excited all over again at the prospect of seeing Spencer and maybe move things along. Jamie realises that he might miss the boat and decides to come clean with Brynn but witnesses a surprising and upsetting encounter instead. This is when Jamie decides to take a road trip with Brynn, hoping that Brynn will realise how he truly feels about her and in return own up to her true feelings too.

It's a long journey. There are a lot of misunderstandings along the way. There are insecurities, fear of rejections and the loss of a good friendship. Everytime, they think that they might be getting somewhere, something else happens to pull them apart. Will they put their insecurities aside and trust in each other to be more than friends?

Jamie is a real nice guy but his insecurities get in the way of being true to himself. The same goes for Brynn who acts a little immature for her age. This is a fun read with love and some heartaches along the way. It would appeal to those who like a romance where best friends turn into lovers.
