Sure Thing by Jana Aston - Reveal

Sure Thing
Jana Aston
Publication date: October 10th 2017
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

A new STANDALONE romance from New York Times bestselling author Jana Aston.

Have you ever set out to have a one night stand with a sexy stranger?

No? I’m the only one?

Just kidding, I would never.

Ever.

Not usually.

But then I figured, why not? My entire life I’ve been good and it’s gotten me nowhere.

No job.

No apartment.

No boyfriend.

I’m owed a little fun, aren’t I? A reward for being good.

Sure, a new pair of shoes would be more appropriate, but Mr. Sexy Stranger is more appealing. And when he speaks—in that British accent—it’s a done deal. Every American woman has a hot British guy fantasy. Well, most do. I haven’t taken a poll or anything, but I’m pretty sure it’s a fact.

Except…

You know that saying about best-laid plans?

Good, because I don’t either, but I assume they go awry.
Like my one night stand…

Sweet Temptation (The Sweet Trilogy #4) by Wendy Higgins

Author                      Wendy Higgins
Publication Date     8 September 2015
Genre                       Young Adult Paranormal Romance

Bad boy Kaidan Rowe has never wanted for anything—money, popularity, musical talent…hot girls—but seducing them is part of his duty as a Nephilim, slave to the demon Dukes. As the son of the Duke of Lust, Kaidan has learned his father’s ways, becoming a master of passion, a manipulator of chemistry. Disobeying his father would mean certain death. Thankfully for Kaidan, he’s good at his job. And he enjoys it.

Until he meets Anna Whitt—sweet, smart, feisty, and inexplicably good—the one girl seemingly immune to his charms. The daughter of a guardian angel and a fallen one, she has a certain power over him, one that makes him wish for more than he could ever deserve.

Determined to save all the Neph from their dark lives as the influencers of sin, Anna joins forces with Kaidan to overcome the demons’ oppressive ways. In the light of her affections, Kaidan must undergo his toughest test of all, a battle of the heart.

Sensual and swoon worthy, this companion volume to the acclaimed Sweet Evil series from New York Times bestselling author Wendy Higgins, told from the perspective of the irresistibly sexy and mysterious Kaidan Rowe, gives readers revealing insights into his struggle, his intense connection to Anna, and most of all, the true emotions that drive him.

Author Note:

Sweet Temptation will encompass the entire trilogy in a condensed version, beginning with Kai's life before he met Anna, and taking readers through the epilogue of Sweet Reckoning. Sweet Temptation is a companion novel, not meant to be a stand alone story. It will definitely be a richer experience for those who have read the original trilogy.

On Sale

I am a big fan of the Sweet Trilogy and reading this book from Kai's POV brings so much more to this beautiful tale.

It's so nice to see so many things through Kai's eyes and actually get to know how he really feels. Being a Nephilim and the son of a ruthless Duke, the main objective in his life is to seduce the opposite sex. Besides, he doesn't even have to try. Women flock to him. Being the drummer of a band makes him even more attractive.

Anna is an adopted orphan and when she goes to one of the concerts, Kai instantly knows that she is like him even though she appears to be clueless. Is she really that clueless or is she a spy for Kai's father? Kai has been trained to be heartless and yet he feels protective towards Anna.

As the story unravels through Kai's eyes, so much come to light. Despite his looks and fame, he has never found someone who cares and to care for. His pain is so palpable at times that it's pretty unbearable. Living under constant fear and being told that you are nothing but a 'tool" can take away all your self worth.

It's not all gloom and doom though, the happy moments, together with watching him grow into someone he never expected to be and getting a life, makes it all worthwhile. Anna is her sweet self and her strength of character is quite beholding. Oh! the emotions at the end are so real and again another side of Kai surfaces.

Sweet Temptation has it all and it's a journey well worth taking. I would recommend to fans of the Sweet Triology and if you haven't read the series and like a good YA to get stuck in, this is more than worth it.

It took me a while to get to read this book but well worth the wait.

The whole Sweet Series is on sale!

SNEAK PEEK

I wanted to tell him he was doing this body shot thing all wrong. It was supposed to be done fast—salt, tequila, lime. One, two, three.

Rapid fire.

Not this leisurely investigation of my body. But I was convinced that if I tried to talk the words would get caught behind the massive lump clogging my throat.
The suction of his mouth made me shudder, and despite myself my body betrayed me. Fiery tendrils unfolded, and as he lapped at the tequila, drinking it up, I couldn’t help imagining what it would be like if his mouth moved lower . . . lower . . . lower . . .

EXCERPT

CHAPTER ONE

“So you’ve returned,” Duncan rasped, the words catching, slicing through a too-dry throat. “The woman who one moment handfasted with me”—he swallowed to ease his throat and blinked, hoping to keep the phantasm in view—“and the next turned me out of bed in disgust.”

Was…was the lovely nighean wiping his brow indeed his Fiona?

His Fiona.

Ach, fever-addled his mind was. The handfasting, her disappearance… But that was several weeks past. More events had transpired, he was sure.

Sharp pain speared his shoulder and filtered across his chest, a reminder.

The battle…

“What happened?” The words scratched past his parched throat, but he’d be damned if he let that stop him. Wincing, he rolled upward, but his muscles protested, and he dropped back against the unforgiving mattress, jarring the pain in his shoulder. The movement set his world spinning, his head strangely a-whirl. Mo Chreach, what ailed him?

He clamped his eyes closed, as if to shield his roiling stomach.

A warm hand pushed against his chest, the touch gentle but firm. “Easy now,” her melodious, oddly accented voice said near his ear.

Day and night that voice had haunted him since first he’d heard it.

She pushed her arm under his shoulders and gripped him tight, the fabric of her clothing cool against his heated skin. Her scent, like the freshest grass in spring and the sweetest flowers, enveloped him. “Try to drink this.” She raised him slightly.

He cracked an eye open again. Aye. ’Twas Fiona. Feverish he might be, but never could he be forgetting the night she secretly pledged herself to him and then pushed him away.

Nor could he ignore how her nearness now acted as a balm. A balm which soothed his confusion and pain.
His eyes had a dry, dragging weight to them. He blinked. Forced them open. Though darkness cloaked the room, save a lone, flickering candle near the bed, he recognized the bare stone walls and sparse furniture of his own chamber. How…?

“It wasn’t disgust.” Her voice was small, tentative.
Before he could reply, she pressed the tin cup to his mouth, the metal cool against his parched, dry lips. He took a sip, quickly swallowing. Bitter. Metallic. Not as putrid as old Hamish’s concoction. Och, she could be poisoning him, to be sure, but his mind was so clouded, his body so racked with pain, that he cared not.

He eased back against the pillow and closed his eyes, the exercise strangely exhausting.

“What happened?” he asked again.

“What do you remember?”

Smoke from the discharge of hundreds of rifles and the scattered cannon of the Williamites. Confusion as the battle waged in the twilight. The vacant eyes of their chieftain fixed on the blue-night sky. And then…

“Yourself. And Traci appearing at the battle. Dundee, shot.”

“No,” she whispered. He shouldn’t find even the tone of her voice lovely, but curse him, he did. “You were shot. You took the bullet meant for him.”

Shot. He edged his hand up his chest, the action disconcertingly hard to achieve. His fingers searched, touched. Met with stiff fabric. That explained his shoulder. The ungodly pain. But he’d suffer that and more if it meant Dundee lived.

Did he? “And Dundee? Iain?” He dropped his arm back to his side.

“Both survived the battle.”

A light feeling suffused him, the relief easing the last of his tension, though it highlighted the pain clamping down on his shoulder, throbbing. “I must be going to the great hall. Help me arise, woman.”

She pushed against him, her enticing scent shrouding him anew. Near her elbow, the candle lent enough light to caress the gentle, sloping line of her neck, delicate jaw, round cheek, and…

Holy Mother. Those eyes. Those gray-blue, intelligent but playful eyes. Eyes that had also drawn him that first night they’d met.

So enthusiastic, she’d been. Her smiles. Och, made just for him they seemed, though he’d told himself it couldn’t be so. But as the night spun onward, and his defenses crumbled, he’d thought… Well, he thought he’d finally found the one person who made him feel wanted for himself, not for what he could do for them. Aye, he’d finally and inexplicably felt at home.

As they handfasted in secret, trusting his instincts, he spun fancies as to the shape of their shared life. The little ones they’d create together. The belonging he’d feel. Already felt.

However, when they were to lay together, she recoiled, and he cursed himself for a fool. Cursed the whisky he’d consumed. For he’d forgotten his heart’s poor judgment. Longing speared through him anew, rivaling the pain in his shoulder.

Concern marred her forehead, but he’d be unwise to believe it meant anything more. They’d handfasted, aye, but that meant nothing if the other didn’t acknowledge it. Especially in these modern times with the Kirk frowning on such declarations, and with no witnesses.

And then she had her fiancé taken hostage.

He played her game and trained for battle.
And now he is completely unprepared to lose.

Can Sal ever forgive her sins of the past?

Will Kaci embrace the changes – or – is the end closer than she ever imagined?

There is nothing he can do—

No praying on his knees for forgiveness.

No bargaining with the devil to save their relationship
In this heartbreaking battle, Sal will lose.

In the fourth and final book of The Story of Salvatore, Sal Raniero begs to reverse the clock as reality leaks into his perfect bubble. With his love of the fetish world shoved to the backburner, he learns not only the meaning of love, but how precious time is.

The war begins when Sal rages into Sugargrove—

Nothing safe from his wrath
Nothing sacred in his path
…including the Hope he longed to keep.

Excerpt

Stripping off his dress shirt, Sal tossed it at Kaci who proceeded to tie it around her waist. With a lustful gaze in his eyes, he urged, “Give me a couple dances, I need to parade you around.”

“We are making a glorious mess of this place,” Kaci noted. “They haven’t ever seen anything like us.”

“You think they are staring now, just wait,” Sal warned.

The music kicked up, and they pulsed to the hypnotic beat. Sal never left her side, gyrating and spinning and twirling her all around. She unhooked his ball cap from his belt loops and put it on her head backwards.

“Sex hat,” he informed.

“Huh?”

Chuckling with a devious smirk, he taunted, “Long story.”

His doll danced about precious and happy and full of a vibrant energy. She put the hat on his head, and he adjusted it. Taking her hand, he swung her around and around. The partygoers cleared them a space as a random firework shot off in the night sky.

“Practice round!” Jack yelled from the sidelines.

Sal noticed everyone he cared about lined up, staring at the pair. Underneath smiling faces, a sadness existed—one of sympathy and pity and remorse. No one needed to say the words as everyone already knew—Quad-F could be Kaci’s last event.

Pivoting away, Sal continued getting down without a care in the world. He didn’t need the foul energy. They had zero time left for anything other than positive vibes.

If they couldn’t give them that in complete faith, he would simply keep his wonderful fiancĂ© to himself and ignore them. Maybe he should have been living his life this way the whole time, but better late than never. The lessons were learned.

In a brief pause, Sal dropped to his knees at the shock of everyone. Kaci smiled and pulled the black collar out from between her small breasts. Wrapping it carefully around his neck, she hooked it to the leash he produced from his pocket. “I love you, Hope.”

“I love you. Shall we get out of here, Raniero?”

“Lead the way, Mistress.”

With a nod of her head back to him, she declared, “Oh, I am. I am.”

Can't Hardly Breathe (#4 The Original Heartbreakers) Gena Showalter

Author                             Gena Showalter
Publication Date            29 August 2017
Genre                               Adult Contemporary Romance

New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter returns with an irresistible Original Heartbreakers story about a woman who's never felt desired and the man who wants her more than air to breathe…

Bullied in high school, Dorothea Mathis's past is full of memories she'd rather forget. But there's one she can't seem to shake—her long-standing crush on former army ranger Daniel Porter. Now that the sexy bad boy has started using her inn as his personal playground, she should kick him out…but his every heated glance makes her want to join him instead.

Daniel returned to Strawberry Valley, Oklahoma, to care for his ailing father and burn off a little steam with no strings attached. Though he craves curvy Dorothea night and day, he's as marred by his past as she is by hers. The more he desires her, the more he fears losing her.

But every sizzling encounter leaves him desperate for more, and soon Daniel must make a choice: take a chance on love or walk away forever.

Bullying can have a long lasting impact, even more so than a kind word. What happens here in Strawberry Valley is a classic example!

Dorothea is the owner of Strawberry Inn. Having been bullied at school and after a cheating ex husband, she struggles with self confidence. She lives with her mother and a rebellious sister.

Daniel has returned to Strawberry Valley to look after his father. He is exforces and owns a security business with his two best friends, Jude and Brock. He doesn't believe in permanent relationships.

Daniel is a frequent patron of the Strawberry Inn, where he usually brings his flings. Dorothea has been crushing on him for as long as she can remember. She is convinced that she is not his type, whereas he is attracted to her. They have one thing in common. Fear! She has a fear of rejection. He has a fear of loss. His post traumatic stress disorder doesn't help.

Dorothea makes an attempt at seduction! Daniel is lost for words, and of course, she takes it as a rejection. He, on the other hand is unable to get her off his mind. When they eventually get together, it's electrifying but, the battle with their fear gets in the way. As they get to know each other, they uncover the depth of their traumatic experiences. Their biggest barrier for having a healthy relationship. Can they overcome their fear and trust each other?

I was hooked on this story from page one. Daniel and Dorothea are complex, but lovable characters. They are loyal and love relentlessly. This novel had me laughing out loud one minute and sniffling the next. It's an addictive and compelling read which had my emotions in tatters. I absolutely loved it and look forward to Jude's and Ryanne's story.

I was kindly issued with an eARC from the publisher via NetGalley and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

EXCERPT

Ginger opened her eyes to the feel of Garricks fingertips lightly stroking the side of her face and realized shed fallen asleep.

Breathing deep, she sat back, wincing at the pinch in her spine. How long was I out? she asked groggily as she touched her fingers to her hot, damp cheekthe one thatd been pressed against his chest.

About an hour. Garrick plucked his shirt, grimacing. You drool.

I do not! Ginger flushed, feeling fifty shades of embarrassed. Because sometimes she did drool. But she was not about to admit that.

Tell that to my shirt. He looked over at her and smirked. No worries, babe. Your secret is safe with me. Besides, its nice to know you have at least one flaw.

Ginger scowled, then frowned as his words registered. You thought I was, what, perfect?

The thought had occurred to me. Standing, Garrick crossed his arms over one another, grabbed the hem of his shirt, and stripped it over his head.

Ginger could only stare at the perfection he presented. Even for an older man, he had an incredible body. It was obvious from the thick, defined muscle that he took care of himself. And that dusting of salt and pepper hair that ran in an upside-down V from his chest to his waistband got her panties all in a twist.

He was so masculine and sexy, it hurt to look at him.

Licking her lips, Ginger remembered their conversation. Well, Im not perfect. Im just me. You thoughwow.

Oh man, had she just said that out loud? Garricks gaze captured hers, and yeah, she definitely had. And it was clearly going to his head.

And not the one in his pants.

Like what you see?

Well, shed already stuck her foot in it. No sense in beating around the bush now. You know I do. Theyd had sex before, and shed let him go down on her last night. Considering how wet shed been then, it should be obvious.

Then maybe, Garrick said, his gruff voice full of seduction as he leaned down over her, bracing his hands on the back of the couch, so she had to tilt her head all the way back to meet his eyes, you should act on it.

Ginger pressed her lips together. Her fingers itched to touch him, to explore the body thatd felt so good on hers so long ago. She wanted to get properly reacquainted. But should she? Shed already messed up and let him do things she never should have allowed. If she took this step, if she let him have her completelyhed have her completely.

And he knew it.
