Come Undone (A Love Triangle) Crystal Kaswell

Crystal Kaswell

Publication Date
27 December 2018

Contemporary Romance

Her fiance doesn’t want her anymore. Her new neighbor would do anything to have her.

From the outside, Alyssa has the perfect life. Beautiful apartment. Handsome high school sweetheart. Impending wedding.

Only her fiance doesn't love her anymore. He disappears into work, leaving her alone with her emptiness.

Until Luke. The brooding lawyer needs a beautiful distraction. Soft lips against his chest, hard nails against his back, Alyssa groaning his name.

He doesn't care that she belongs to someone else. He's going to claim her anyway.

3 Stars

This book isn't so much of a love triangle, rather accepting a marriage proposal out of obligation and fear of going back to the old ways! Emotional blackmail.

Ryan and Alyssa are or were good friends before dating each other. He is always there when needed. He doesn't hesitate to point out this fact to Alyssa whenever he wants to get his way. Taking her on guilty trips. She accepts everything he throws at her as he knows best. He is always right! Is it the right path for a relationship?

Anyway, the night that he proposes, he expects a positive reply and just like that, she is engaged. Instead of celebrating their engagement, he returns to the office after taking an urgent call. Everything is an emergency! This is the first time that Alyssa sets eyes on sexy Luke, his partner. There is an instant spark between them and one thing leads to another. The problem is Alyssa is still engaged and keeps on misleading Luke. Can she or will she ever break away from Ryan and give Luke a chance?

As hard as I tried, I found it hard to take to Alyssa. Ganted, she had her problems and Ryan helped her. Now, she is stuck in a loveless relationship and is selfish enough to lead Luke on. Ryan might well love her in his own way, but staying at the office late, seven days a week isn't what a relationship is about. He sees her as arm candy and shows her off whenever the need arises. She goes along with it and more or less does what he demands. Luke who is my favourite character is stuck in the middle. He has all good intentions, but unfortunately cannot and doesn't speak for Alyssa. I can't say that I like Ryan and Alyssa, but thankfully she comes to her senses and does the right thing.

The story itself is well written, but I don’t like the storyline. It also touches on the delicate subject of eating disorders which is the reason why Ryan behaves the way he does. All in all, a good read, but not one of my favourites.

I was kindly issued with an eARC and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

Crystal Kaswell writes fun, sexy new adult romances with damaged heroes and the strong women who unlock their hearts.

Privilege (#1 Renzo + Lucia) Bethany-Kris - Blog Tour

by Bethany-Kris

Renzo + Lucia , #1

Publication Date

 January 7, 2019

Adult, Romantic Suspense, Organized Crime. Erotic Romance

They didn't come from the same world

Born rich to a family of mafia royalty, Lucia Marcello was already destined to succeed. She wanted for absolutely nothing, until she met him.

Born poor to parents who never cared, Renzo Zulla was already destined to fail. He has struggled for absolutely everything, but she'll prove to be his biggest fight yet.

She's high society from the upscale suburbs.

He's a drug dealer from New Yorks slums.
They just weren't meant to be  until they were.

What would it take to change a life, an entire perspective? All the things you thought you knew and wanted?

For them, it took thirty-six days.
And the privilege of meeting each other.
They shouldn't be.
They don't fit.
Love doesn't care.

Note: Privilege is book one in a three-book trilogy following the same couple.

5 Stars

The synopsis of this book is dead on. The rich and the poor whose hearts can"t and be dictated or won't be denied. The hoops that they go through bring out the mix emotions. From joy and laughter, to threats, despair and destruction.

Renzo aka Ren is from a poor family and would do anything for those he loves and never breaks his promises.

Lucia is the youngest of the Marcello principessas. She wants for nothing and yet she feels for those who are less fortunate.

Ren and Lucia have a brief encounter where she is warned to stay away from "his kind". Yet when she volunteers at the shelter, she feels a kinship with Ren and his four year old brother, Diego. They are not so different after all, except that Ren comes from poverty whereas she comes from wealth. This kinship with Ren turns into friendship and then into something more.

Lucian, whom I love can't stand to lose his little girl and thinks that Ren is bad news. That doesn't stop them from seeing each other, but Lucian has all the means to break them up. He can even destroy Ren, if he needs. Can the two young lovers keep up their relationship which has blossomed into love or will the Marcellos tear them apart?

I was completely rooted to this story. I love Ren for who he is, and how he looks after his siblings, Rose and Diego. Lucia is full of compassion, and her comparison of her family and Ren's family is admirable. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this installment and looking forward to the next as I haven't got a clue where this is going next. Loved it.

I was kindly issued with an eARC and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

A True Cowboy Christmas (#1 Cold River Ranch) Caitlin Crews

Caitlin Crews

Publication Date
30 October 2018

Contemporary Romance

From USA Today bestselling author Caitlin Crews comes A True Cowboy Christmas, the first in a sensational series debut about a cowboy, a farm girl, and the greatest gift of all. . .

Gray Everett has a heart of gold but that doesn't mean he believes in the magic of Christmas. He's got plenty else to worry about this holiday season, what with keeping his cattle ranch in the family and out of the hands of hungry real-estate investors looking to make a down-and-dirty deal. That, plus being a parent to his young and motherless daughter, equals a man who will not rest until he achieves his mission. Now, all Gray needs is the help of his lifelong neighbor. . .who happens to have grown into a lovely, spirited woman.

For Abby Douglas, the chance to join forces with Gray is nothing less than a Christmas miracle. Much as the down-to-earth farmer's daughter has tried to deny it, Abby's been in love with stern, smoking-hot Gray her whole life. So when Gray proposes a marriage of convenience as a way to combine land--and work together toward a common cause—Abby can't refuse. But how can she convince Gray that sometimes life offers a man a second chance for a reason. . .and that their growing trust and mutual passion
may be leading to true and lasting love?

3 Stars

This book is more about parental's abusive control and its lasting effects. The magic of Christmas doesn't come until the end.

Gray is dedicated to his farm and the land which has been in his family for centuries is the most important thing in his life besides his fifteen year old daughter. His controlling father makes sure that he doesn't trust anyone. The fiasco of his first marriage doesn't help either.

Abby is hardworking and down to earth. Abondoned by her verbally abusive mother from a young age, she is raised by her grandparents. She has a good life with her grandmother, but this is marred whenever her mother decides to make an appearance. She thrives on demeaning Abby, robbing her of any confidence in her appearance.

Gray's father's funeral kicks off this story. Although there is a good turn out, there isn't much grieving. His brothers Ty and Brady give the impression that they want to sell the land, and that on its on triggers an argument. Gray fears that he is like his father. Doomed to a life of loathing and misery! When he spots Abby, his nextdoor neighbour, he notices a couple of things about her and at the same time decides that she would make a convenient wife. A mother for his daughter and an opportunity for Abby to have her own family.

Abby has been harbouring a crush on Gray for as long as she can remember and when Gray appears on her doorstep, she is gobsmacked. The only thing is that, this proposal is nothing like what she expected. In some ways, it's quite comical, but insulting in other ways. Will she accept the proposal and hope for the best?

Although Gray has his own different character, I can't say that I was charmed by him. His father did quite a number on his self esteem and his word is law. I admire Abby for her perseverence, but not for putting up with her mother's insults and Gray's attitude. I like the way she handles Becca, Gray's daughter. I was beginning to despair about their future, when the Christmas miracle changes Gray's way of thinking, and they get their HEA. Where there is love, there is hope and despite everything Abby's love never wanes and Gray learns how to love. I like the storyline, but there is a little too much angst for my liking. Worth reading though.

I received an eARC from Netgalley and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

Caitlin Crews discovered her first romance novel at the age of twelve, in a bargain bin at the local five and dime. It involved swashbuckling pirates, grand adventures, a heroine with rustling skirts and a mind of her own, and a seriously mouthwatering and masterful hero. The book (the title of which remains lost in the mists of time) made a serious impression. Caitlin was immediately smitten with romances and romance heroes, to the detriment of her middle school social life. And so began her life-long love affair with romance novels, many of which she insists on keeping near her at all times, thus creating a fire hazard of love wherever she lives.

Caitlin has made her home in places as far-flung as York, England and Atlanta, Georgia. She was raised near New York City, and fell in love with London on her first visit when she was a teenager. She has backpacked in Zimbabwe, been on safari in Botswana, and visited tiny villages in Namibia. She has, while visiting the place in question, declared her intention to live in Prague, Dublin, Paris, Athens, Nice, the Greek Islands, Rome, Venice, and/or any of the Hawaiian islands. Writing about exotic places seems like the next best thing to actually moving there.

She currently lives in Oregon with her animator/comic book artist husband and their menagerie of ridiculous animals.

The Duke I Once Knew (#1 Unlikely Duchesses) Olivia Drake - Blog Tour

Olivia Drake

Publication Date
31 December 2018

Historical Romance

Award-winning author Olivia Drake begins her new Unlikely Duchesses series with THE DUKE I ONCE KNEW (St. Martin’s Paperbacks; December 31, 2018). With compelling characters and skillful plot twists, Drake’s latest novel will take your breath away.

First love is always the sweetest…

For years, Abigail Linton devoted herself to caring for her parents and her siblings’ children. Now, eager to create a life of her own, Abby seizes upon a position as a governess on a neighboring estate. Unfortunately, her absentee employer is Maxwell Bryce, the Duke of Rothwell, the notorious rake who once broke her youthful heart. But since he hasn’t set foot on his estate for fifteen years, Abby assumes she’ll never have to lay eyes on him ever again.

Then, from out of nowhere, Max appears. He is stunned to come face to face with the girl next door he fell for years ago—before he went away, and she stopped writing to him … even though Abby swears that he is the one who left her without a word. Could it be that this spirited, witty spinster has won Max’s heart all over again—and that they may have a second chance at love?

4 Stars

This is a second chance historical romance, when one becomes a "spinster" at thirty. It's quite acceptable to be married before the age of twenty.

Abby and Max were childhood friends and sweethearts. Unfortunately, Max and his sister were whisked off to London when he was only fifteen.

Fast forward to fifteen years later, and Abby wants a change in her life. She loves her family dearly, but answers to every beck and call, and now they are talking about her as if she isn't there. She makes the decision of earning her own way. She applies for a governess position and now that she feels secure, Max reappears.

Max is the most eligible bachelor and the rake of London. He has to make a last minute change to stop at his Dukedom for the forthcoming week. He has brought his questionable entourage, including his mistress. Imagine his surprise on encountering the governess. It would appear that there has been a misunderstanding, but the old spark is still present. Will they clear up the misunderstanding or will Max continue to be the rogue that he is renowned for?

It's a well written historical romance. The two main characters are very well portrayed as are the secondary characters.

I was kindly issued with an eARC from Netgalley and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

Olivia Drake is the author of the Cinderella Sisterhood series (Seducing the Heiress, Never Trust a Rogue, Scandal of the Year, If the Slipper Fits, Stroke of Midnight, Abducted by the Prince, Bella and the Beast, His Wicked Wish, and The Scandalous Flirt). She has been a member of Romance Writers of America since 1981, and her novels have won the Golden Heart Award, Best Historical Romantic Suspense and Best Regency Historical from Romantic Times. She has also won the prestigious RITA award. She currently resides in Houston, TX.

I didn't want to love her. I didn't want to need her. But now that she's my world, no one is going to take her from me. Yet the minute I propose, that's exactly what the universe tries to do. It tries to take her from me.

They'll be sorry they tired.

She's mine.

4 Stars

All Mine brings Reid and Carrie's intense love story to a splendid finish.

After their engagement, Reid and Carrie go to Hong Kong to close one of their biggest business deals. All is well on that front, but there are some stumbling blocks which could threaten their business, their reputations and their happily ever after.

The rivalry between their fathers is still present. Carrie learns a few home truths about her father and Reid's father remains on his vindictive path. Reid unveils more secrets to Carrie. Secrets that could make or break their relationship. Then Reid's past returns to haunt him, again threatening his reputation and his relationship.

I like the change in Reid and the intensity of his incredible bond to Carrie. The support from Cat, Reese and the Walkers is constant. It's a sensual story, filled with lies and deceit. It's a great storyline. Nicely paced.

I was kindly issued with an eARC and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

Reid pulls me close, his fingers tunneling  into my hair before he says, “Ever fucked in a limo, baby?” and before I can answer, his mouth closes down on mine and he’s crazy, hot kissing me.

“Well?” Reid challenges, his lips parting mine after a scorching kiss. “Have you ever fucked in a limo?”

“No,” I say, my hand flattening on his really hard and perfect chest, while my sex clenches in denial of my rejection about to follow. “I have not and I’m not starting now. Have you?”

“No,” he says. “Which makes it all the better that I do it with you. The only woman I plan to ever fuck again in this lifetime.” He kisses me and his hand slides under my shirt and over my breast.

“We paid a lot of money for this private limo,” he says. “Let’s enjoy it.”

“We?” I ask, catching his hand under my shirt but it does no good to stop him. His fingers shove down the lace of my bra.

“Yes. We. What’s mine is yours and just to be clear, you’re mine now.” He latches onto my nipple with his fingers and I moan with the sweet friction.

“Reid,” I whisper huskily.

“More, baby?” He rolls me to my back onto the long leather seat and then comes down on top of me. “You want my mouth on your nipple?”

“Stop,” I warn, clenching my thighs to no avail. His big body is separating them, and both of us have a leg dangling off the seat. “We can’t—”

He kisses me again, a deep, drugging kiss, while his hand squeezes my breast, and his thick cock nestles against my sex. I moan and he presses his cheek to mine, his lips at my ear. “I do believe you need my mouth on your nipple right now.”

“Reid,” I hiss, but it’s too late. He’s dragging my shirt up and over my head, tossing it aside and almost immediately his mouth is on one of my nipples, suckling, and licking. “What if—”

He kisses me. “I paid for privacy.”

I push on his chest. “We’re in Japan. How do you know you really paid for privacy?”

“It’s Japan, baby. They respect agreements here, more than Americans.” He kisses me again and his hand slides around my backside, squeezing and lifting me against him. “Maybe I should spank you right here.”

“No!” I say urgently, shoving on his chest again. “Not a chance in hell.”

He laughs low and sexy. “But I can fuck you?”

“Are you really  trying to negotiate right now?” I challenge.

“I’m just trying to get inside my future wife.” He strokes a lock of hair from my face, his expression softening, his voice tender now. “Wife, Carrie. I never thought I’d call anyone that. I never thought I’d want anyone like that.”

My heart squeezes. “Husband,” I whisper. “From asshole to husband. I never—”

“You changed me, Carrie. You. Just you. And I need you to know that I will protect you. That I will never hurt you.”

My fingers splay on his cheek and I know he’s thinking of the girlfriend that gave up her life for him. “Reid, you can’t walk around afraid for me. That’s not living.”

“I will protect you,” he promises, his tone guttural, as if I haven’t even spoken, his mouth covering mine in a deep kiss, before he returns to my nipple, this time I don’t fight the pleasure. He needs this right now. Maybe I do, too. I arch into the intimate touch of his lips, his tongue, into the taut pull of his teeth against my nipple. My fingers dive into his blond hair but he moves down my body, his lips on my belly, his tongue flickering into my belly button even as he unsnaps my jeans.

This jolts me and I grab his hand, lifting my head to look at him. “Are you sure we’re safe in here?”

Those beautiful blue eyes of his meet mine. “I promise, baby. No one will interrupt us.”

“You’re sure?”

“I promise and—”

“You never break a promise,” I say, stopping him there. “That’s a very marrying quality, by the way.”

His lips, those brutally sexy lips, curve. “Good to know. Trust me now, Carrie.”

Trust him.

There is a question in his eyes, a roughness to his voice. He proposed, but on the heels of so many opportunities for me to question him. This appeal to “trust him now” isn’t about sex in a limo. It’s about so much more. “I do trust you,” I say, and my voice isn’t a whisper, just a tremble of emotion spoken quite clearly.

He studies me for several long beats and then tugs my jeans down, taking the tiny strip of silk I’m wearing with them, with my shoes following. I barely have time to process just how vulnerable I am before Reid pulls his shirt over his head. “So you know you’re never naked alone, not again. Not ever.”

Emotion wells in my chest and he is already on top of me, kissing me, his cheek pressing to mine as he whispers, “I love you.”

“I love you, too,” I whisper back, only to have him slide down my body again.
