Land. Power. Influence. Mary O’Malley knows these are the only things that matter in her war-torn country.

Captain Richard Grant runs a tight ship, and he didn’t claw his way up through the ranks of the Royal Navy to be undone by a headstrong Irish girl hell-bent on jeopardizing his mission and his crew. If she insists on dressing like a man, then she can take his punishments. He demands obedience, but his insatiable need for her leads to a complex game of sex, desire, and dominance not even he can control.

Awakened by the passion Grant stirs in her, Mary finds herself falling for the stern captain. But when her false identity leads to rumors of her spying for the French, she must choose between her love for Ireland and the man who commands her body—and her heart.

“What are you doing aboard my ship?”

I swallowed hard, my lip trembling as I fumbled for the words. I didn’t even know where to start, and my face burned as I tried to gather my thoughts. No matter how I told the story, it all seemed so ridiculous.

“Tell me!” he commanded.

“I’m searching for my fiancé.”

He took a step forward, his boots thudding hard on the floor. “Your fiancé.” He took another step, and I flinched. The ship rolled and tumbled beneath my feet, and I grasped onto the panels, my fingers digging into the polished oak planks.

“Are you mad?” His fists clenched at his sides, powerful and trembling.

“It would look that way, sir.” My eyes drilled into a tiny knot on the floor, willing myself to shrink in size so I could dive into it and scurry away like a little mouse. But his boots thundered forward, the small buckles making a sound like clinking chains.

“Are you in some sort of trouble? Is that it? Are you with child?” His voice softened, and I looked up, startled at the sudden change in his tone.

“No, sir.”

“Well, then?” he boomed.

I jumped, folding myself deeper into the corner of the room. What could I have possibly said to him in that moment? Telling Captain Grant that Johnny’s father had accused me of stealing, so I had to run away to consummate our marriage in order to clear my name and win back my homeland was perhaps not the best way to endear myself to him.

“There’s been…” I swallowed the lump in my throat.

“There’s been trouble at home.”

Grant let out an exasperated sound, shaking his head and turning away with a curse. “You do understand you are aboard a ship with over seven hundred male sailors, correct? A woman has no place on a ship of the line bound for battle. I cannot guarantee your safety.”

“I know that, sir.”

“And due to the nature of our mission, I am in no position to turn us around.”

“Yes, sir.”

He shook his head, pacing the room. “You have endangered yourself and my men with your presence. I know officers who would hang you for treason against England for what you have done.”

“I suppose it’s a good thing I’m not English, then.” The words popped out before I could stop them, my latent nationalism waving a pitiful green flag in the dim light of the Captain’s chambers.

A muscle flickered in his jaw, and when he turned to me again, I nearly gasped at the rage in his bright eyes. All the blood drained from my face, and I bit my lip, willing my saucy tongue to hold still.

“You think this is some sort of game?” His eyes narrowed, and he pressed closer to me.

My courage fired back, and I straightened, raising my shoulders in a challenge.

His eyes flitted over me from head to toe, and he made a low sound in the back of his throat. “I should throw you overboard and let the fish eat at your rebel heart.”

“Better to die a rebel than live as a slave.”

Can't Let Go (#5 The Original Heartbreakers) Gena Showalter

Author                          Gena Showalter
Publication Date         31 October 2017
Genre                             Contemporary Romance

New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter is back with a sizzling Original Heartbreakers tale about an icy war vet and the only woman capable of melting him…

With trust issues a mile long, Ryanne Wade has sworn off men.  Then Jude Laurent walks into her bar and all bets are off.  The former Army Ranger has suffered unimaginably, first being maimed in battle then losing his wife and daughters to a drunk driver. Making the brooding widower smile is priority one. Resisting him? Impossible.

To Jude, Ryanne is off limits. And yet the beautiful bartender who serves alcohol to potential motorists tempts him like no other. When a rival bar threatens her livelihood, and her life, he can’t turn away.  She triggers something in him he thought long buried, and he’s determined to protect her, whatever the cost.

As their already scorching attraction continues to heat, the damaged soldier knows he must let go of his past to hold on to his future...or risk losing the second chance he desperately needs.

Can't Let Go centres on Scratching Post, a small town pub which is popular for its regional moonshine.

Ryanne is the pub's owner and bartender. She is witty, loving and independent . She doesn’t trust men and would rather travel the world. On her own! A dream that she intends to realise.

Jude is ex army and has suffered some terrible loss. He lives with guilt and a constant fear of loss. He is close to his best friends Daniel and Brock and doesn't allow anyone else to get close to him.

Jude has been attracted to Ryanne from the word go, but does his best to antagonise her to keep her at arms lengths. Ryanne likes nothing better than teasing him to the point of embarrassment. She would do anything to make him smile and take notice of her. She likes him. A lot! They are complete opposite and yet the attraction between them intensifies with each interaction. It's an ongoing tug of war.

When the owner of the rival club starts to intimidate and threaten Ryanne, Jude's protective instinct kicks in. He would do anything to keep her safe even though, she insists that she is capable of looking after herself. She isn't wrong, but everyone needs a little help sometimes.

This installment is about a second chance at happiness, true friendship and loyalty. There is also an element of suspense and danger. It's humourous, but there is anguish, fuelled by fear and threats. Jude and Ryanne show their strength of character and unconditional love when it really matters. It's an emotive romance which shows that love can prevail. A valuable addition to this series.

I was kindly issued with an eARC from the publisher via NetGalley and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

Max

She couldn’t tell if she was nervous or excited. The sensations felt the same. Her heart raced, her stomach tingled, and her unabashed thoughts ran wild.

I’m not a rebound kind of girl. I’m just not. Right?

Chase pulled up on a vintage Honda CB 750 motorcycle, kicking up gravel and brandishing a huge smile. Max tried to avoid staring at his sculptured chest defined by his tight, black t-shirt, as a tinge of guilt rose up in her unexpectedly.

I have every right to spend the day with this guy. I’m single now, and we’re just wine tasting.

But the instinctive habit of loyalty to Bart flared up in her like acid indigestion.

“Good morning, beautiful. Let’s get this day started. I’ve got bread baking in the oven. Hop on.”

Again with the beautiful? He actually thinks I’m beautiful.

“You bake?”

“I do.”

Oh, good lord.

Max’s giddiness curled the corners of his lips as he handed her a helmet and tilted the bike to the side. She slung her leg over and perched herself above him, looping her long purse strap across her back and fastening the helmet onto her head as a shock of exhilaration rose up in her at the thought that he was already between her thighs.

She had never experienced such hospitality before from a man—a gorgeous, bread-baking, sensitive, ponytail-wearing kind of man—and it rallied her nerves with feelings of unworthiness.

“I can’t believe I’m doing this,” she muttered.

“What do you mean?”

“Oh, nothing.”

It’s just wine tasting. Tasting … wine. That’s all.

She slipped her hands around his waist, reeling from the feel of his ripped abs against her palms. She even leaned in to breathe in the skin on the back of his neck. Her eyes rolled back in her head for a split second as she resisted the urge to plant a kiss on the exposed patch of skin behind his ear.

EXCERPT

I rocked forward on my arms so I could lean closer and hear more clearly. My attic bedroom was directly above the coven leader’s desk, and from this angle, I had a clear line-of-sight to the witches gathered below. It’s surprising how, after all this time, they still hadn’t caught on to the fact I was spying. I could see and hear everything they discussed. Note to self: when creating a sound-dampening spell, it’s not sufficient to muffle the walls, windows, and door—the floor and ceiling should also be considered.

The peephole had been a fortuitous mishap. I’d been practicing my air-moving skills when I accidentally created a small tornado. Hey now, it was a little one, only a couple feet tall—it’s not like I created a whirlwind of epic proportions. Did you know, if you got air spinning fast enough over a single focal point, it’s possible to drill a hole in a wood floor? It was easy enough to make a plug to conceal the damage, and my room’s simple privacy spell was always active, so there were no worries of discovery. Even if they’d looked up—and they never looked up—my magic was flawless enough they’d see an unblemished ceiling. Cocky witches.

Each coven contained a main circle of twelve witches, plus a priestess. The strongest groups consist of extended families who could pick and choose the most promising amongst themselves, but most covens are formed from a collection of individuals with varying degrees of power and skill. Mother Nan’s coven was moderately talented, with a core group of six sycophants, err…I mean, mature practitioners, all of which were crowded around her desk—standing, of course. The seventh witch was Lea, a semi-strong practitioner who still lacked emotional control over her mouth and her magic, but was her mother’s favorite daughter.

“He’s an abomination.” Mara spat the words as if they left a foul residue in her mouth.

“Too true,” Betti agreed, as was her nature.

“It’s a miracle we haven’t been killed in our beds,” Ella said, lips pursed in sour disapproval.

“Oh, definitely, in our beds.” Betti nodded in quick little jerks, like a bobble-head doll.

Coral sniffed. “It was touch-and-go while he went through his let’s-set-everything-on-fire phase.”

Oh, come on now, I’d been sick, running a high fever. I was seven! You’d think, after all this time, they could let it go.

Thigh Highs by Katia Rose - Book Blitz

Thigh Highs
Katia Rose
Publication date: October 26th 2017
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Romance

Modelling lingerie for her arch-nemesis was not on Christina’s to-do list.

Then again, neither was he.

Aaron Penn might be the talk of the advertising school they both attend, but to Christina he’s just an egomaniac with a cocky smirk to match. Fast forward to the end of term, when a class project gone wrong has her stripping down to a negligee and letting Aaron photograph her to advertise a line of women’s underwear.

She expects suggestive comments and smarmy-eyed stares, but when Aaron gets behind the camera he treats her body like a work of art. Even though all she’s got on is a scrap of satin, the room suddenly feels way too hot.

As the tension between them builds to expensive-panty-melting-levels, Christina finds herself caught between falling for the complicated artist who knows just what poses to put her in, and wondering why he acts like such an irritating hotshot around everyone else.

EXCERPT

“No way,” I gasp, staring at the very large, very professional-looking camera in Aaron’s hands. “Did you just steal that?”

He looks up after setting the camera down on the desk next to the carefully arranged lingerie.

“Really?” he demands, cocking a brow. “Is your opinion of me actually so bad that your first assumption is to think I stole this?”

I give him a look that suggests exactly that.

“I didn’t steal it,” he confirms. “It’s mine. I…”

His eyes drift to the floor and he takes a moment to heft the gear bag he has thrown over his shoulder onto the desk, turning away from me as he does.

“I do photography sometimes,” he continues. “It’s just a hobby. I was going to come back in here after the shoot and play around a bit.”

“That looks like more than just a hobby.” I gesture towards all his gear as he turns back to face me.

He shrugs, avoiding my eye. “I mean, I have to look good in all my selfies.”

“It’s like being a douchebag is just a reflex for you,” I sigh. “I almost can’t even blame you for it.”

He starts unzipping the bag and pulls out a few lenses.

As I watch, it occurs to me that even though we’ve now got a camera and someone who knows how to use it, our problems are far from solved.

“So do you have a C cup model hiding in that bag?” I ask him. “Because if not, we’re still screwed.”

“You must be at least a C cup,” he responds, not looking up from the lenses.

I’m about to ask what that has to do with anything when the realization of what he’s suggesting hits.

Oh hell no.

Allie Burton
(Castle Ridge, #5)
Publication date: October 25th 2017
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

All’s fair in love and business.

Billionaire Jackson Croft refuses to let anything interfere with his merger and marriage plans. His merger. His brother’s marriage. When Emory Barrington returns to Castle Ridge and catches his younger brother’s attention, Jackson needs to take drastic steps to stop the flirtation. Even if it means using himself as bait.

As a child Emory was infatuated with the younger Croft brother, so when he invites her to a party she can’t resist. Until Jackson interrupts their dance, tries to bribe her, and then steals a kiss. A kiss that vibrates to her soul.

To make up for the attempted bribe, Jackson offers her a job decorating his Denver penthouse. She’s just starting her interior design firm and can’t turn the business away even if it means working closely with the billionaire. The project turnaround is fast and the attraction between Emory and Jackson grows faster. She believes she sees the real man beneath the façade, but when she learns of his double-dealing her heart can’t take the betrayal.

In this take on the Sabrina story, can deception lead to love?

EXCERPT

“The party is tonight. You should come.”

Emory’s spirits flew. All her teenage fantasies about attending one of the Croft events burst into an explosion of light.

Excitement shot through her entire body.

Ryder Croft invited me, Emory Reese Barrington, to a Croft party.

Jeez, quit acting like a child. She shouldn’t be impressed. She’d been to lots of fancy parties in Spain. She was a special guest at a Vizconde’s party. Her thoughts soured. One of many of his special guests.

“You’re inviting me to your sister’s wedding reception? Isn’t it too late to RSVP?” Except he wasn’t inviting Emory, he didn’t know who he spoke to.

“There will be hundreds. One more person won’t be noticed.” He took her hand and rubbed his thumb against her skin. “We could dance.”

This should be where she swooned.

Clutching the coat tighter between her hands, she imagined holding Ryder in her arms while they danced, of him walking her through their elaborate gardens as he’d done with other girls, of him kissing her.

Ryder would be disappointed when he found out her name. For now, for this one moment in time, she could feel special. “I’d love to.”

“Great.” An uneasiness slid into his gaze, and she wondered if he was picturing the woman he’d planned to propose to. He opened the trunk, taking out her suitcase.

“Hello, Emory.” An even deeper, masculine voice rumbled.

Her heart leapt to her throat, blocking the passage of air. She pivoted around at the greeting. Her fantasy to pretend for a little while longer died by two words from the frightening, older brother. She’d hoped Ryder wouldn’t learn who she was until tonight at the party. When she was dressed up and looking her best.

It was too late now. “Hello, Jackson.”

Wearing a suit and tie on a Saturday afternoon, he strolled from his boring sedan parked ahead of them. His brown hair had been slicked back from his forehead in perfect grooming. A couple of new lines had formed on his forehead.

Only a year older than Ryder, he acted at least five years older. Because he never had fun, his only interest being the family business.

“Emory?” Ryder raised his brown eyebrows into high arches. He hadn’t guessed who she was after spending thirty minutes in her company.

Her flying spirits took a dive and crashed to the ground. Had she been so unnoticeable as a kid? Jackson had recognized her immediately.

He signed off on a clipboard a worker gave him, barely glancing at her. “How was Barcelona?”

She angled her chin, surprised he remembered where she’d gone, and that she’d been gone at all. Their paths didn’t cross frequently in the past, on purpose. She’d avoided him and his overbearing attitude. “Good.”

The work experience had been great. The personal life, not so much. She wasn’t going to go into detail. Not with Jackson.

“Emory?” Ryder’s jaw dropped.

“Your mother is going to be glad you’re home.” Jackson considered her and his brother. His expression went quizzical.

“Good to see you,” he said, before heading up the stairs and through the front door.

“Emory?” Ryder shook his head trying to get her name straight.

Her shoulders dropped farther every time he said her name. Her fantasy had ended sooner than expected. “I suppose your invitation to the party has been withdrawn, now you know who I am.”

“No.” He shook his head again. “No. Of course not.”

She raised her brows. “Are you sure? Do you want to dance with the housekeeper’s daughter?”

He waved a hand in front of his face, and his expression cleared. He assessed her shape. “This is the twenty-first century.”

She squirmed with misgiving. Not really an answer to her question.

'Tis the season for ex-Navy SEAL Clayton East to come home for the holidays-even if the mood at home is anything but festive. His father is ill. The East Ranch is in financial trouble. And now it's on Clayton, the prodigal son, to make sure his family doesn't lose everything. Headstrong Abby Harper is like a mother to her younger brothers, who she's helped raise since she was a teenager. Keeping them in line is no small task while she's also working toward her college degree. And now that one of her brothers has been arrested for stealing cattle at the East Ranch, Abby is at her wits' end. But there is a silver lining: Clayton East. He believes in second chances, and is willing to give one to her brother this Christmas. Letting beautiful Abby-and the inescapable longing in his heart-off the hook, however, is a whole 'nother story. Could it be that the woman of this local hero's dreams has been back at home all along? Contains mature themes.

EXCERPT

As soon as Abby saw the mare, the smile that pulled at her lips displayed her joy. She oohed and ahhed over the horse.

“Her name is Diamond.”

“Diamond,” Abby repeated as she stroked the horse’s neck. “It fits you.”

The mare had fallen for Abby almost immediately, and Clayton could understand why. There was something about the woman that drew people and animals. She was quiet and unassuming. He suspected that might be because so many people overlooked her. That was their loss because there was so much about Abby that was intriguing.

“You’re staring,” she said as she cut her eyes to him.

Clayton lifted one shoulder in a shrug. “I like what I see.”

She paused in her caress of the mare. Then she took a step back, and then another and another before she turned and walked away.

He frowned as anger spiked through him. He’d moved too fast. Abby was like a spooked mare. He should’ve trodden slowly. Earned her trust first.

When Abby reached the back of the barn, she stopped and looked at him over her shoulder. It was the seductive curve of her lips that halted his thoughts. As soon as she turned the corner, he started after her.

His blood rushed through him in a frenzy before pooling in his cock. With his heart beating furiously, he found her leaning back against the barn.

Clayton stood before her. His palms ached to feel her skin, to hold her glorious curves against him. He couldn’t seem to catch his breath, and as he took a step closer to her, he realized that it had been years since he’d hungered to kiss anyone as he did Abby.

Her lips parted, drawing his attention to her mouth. The longing he’d suppressed for days consumed him. He took the final step that brought their bodies close. The soft light from over the barn couldn’t reach them in the shadows.

He held her gaze and put a hand on her waist before slowly pulling her against him. Her palms landed on his upper arms. Then she lifted her face to him. That’s all it took to push him over the edge.

Clayton lowered his head, her eyes drifting shut right before their lips met. He softly plied her mouth with light kisses until her hands moved up his arms and twined around his neck. When she sighed, he slid his tongue against her lips.

As her mouth opened, and their tongues met, need coursed through him. The desire, the yearning to have her seized him, overwhelmed him as the kiss deepened. He wound one hand into her long hair while his other splayed over her back. With each lick, each sigh, each moan, the hunger grew. Without a doubt, he had to have her. Not because he was in need, but because he ached for her.

But now wasn’t the time. He wouldn’t have their first time together be against the back of the barn in the shadows so no one saw them. He wasn’t ashamed of Abby, and he wanted her to know that. He cared about her.

That in and of itself shocked him, but he accepted it. What choice did he have, really?

Clayton knew he had to end the kiss now before he was past the point of no return. Already he was circling down that drain. He forced himself to pull back. Then he saw her heavy-lidded eyes and the way her chest heaved.

He ran his thumb over her swollen lips and briefly thought of picking her up and riding somewhere where no one could find them. Luckily, there was enough sanity left in him that he was able to keep dominion over his desire.

“Why did you stop?” she asked.

He was glad she didn’t know how easily she could’ve broken through his restraint by simply pulling his head down for another kiss. That’s all it would’ve taken. He wanted her so badly he shook with it.

“I’m already walking a tightrope, Abby,” he confessed. “If I keep kissing you, I won’t stop.”

“I don’t want you to stop.”

He groaned at her husky words. If he wanted to stay in control, he had to reason with her, and he knew just the thing to say.

“You don’t want your brothers finding us, do you?”

Just as he expected, it was as if she were doused with cold water. “Or your parents.”

He forced a smile even as he missed the sexy woman who had been begging for more kisses a moment before. But he’d find her again soon enough. “Exactly.”

“It’s been a long time since I’ve kissed anyone.”

“Their loss. My gain.” And damn if he didn’t feel male pride at having her in his arms.

She glanced at the ground as she smiled. Then her gaze met his as she pulled her hands down to rest on his chest. “Be careful, Clayton East, I might realize you’re a good guy.”

“I can promise you that I’m not.”

Her grin widened. “You’re wrong.”
